If you have to do something...

I don't have the Duke synthetic, but I have heard that it can be a stiff knot. Try breaching it on the point of your chin for a quick splay scrub and then switch to paintbrushing. That's what I do with my Chubby synth.

Yea, this is what I end up doing. 😎👍

It just takes longer than usual as I still need to intersperse more scrub to build the lather I like.

I have a Chubby 2 synthetic that needs to be handled in a specific way for me to enjoy it. The fibers are stiff and don’t feel good if I try to face lather directly. I use the puck to overload the brush with soap then finally go to my face at the very end and it splays and performs beautifully. I think the knot needs a critical density of soap between the fibers to get them to splay, then I can paint or use it for circular strokes and both will feel good.

But it’s not a dip in water, touch to soap, go to face type of brush unlike my PAA or Wald synthetics.

I've never been able to splay with a synth anyway, they are all too prickly for my delicate skin. Painting all the way.

If you have the cash and interest, try a Wald A1 Fan brush. Soft and dense and totally unique in the current synthetic brush market

That’s surprising! The majority of my synths are just as easy if not more soft that my badgers.

Shave #37 (887 Open Blade Shaves) of 2024:

Gear: Tedalus Essence, Feather Pro Guard blade, Yaqi Sagrada Familia synth brush, Stirling Agar soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe, Nivea Sensitive AS Balm, Brooklyn Grooming Anchor AS, and Dior Homme Sport ‘19 to finish!

Man, Wednesday already?! Crazy!

Great shave this morning, though a bit of a mishmash of scents. 3 easy passes with the Essence over a silk smooth Stirling lather. And a few well placed spritzes of DHS for effect!

Full work day ahead. Not quite sure what after. Getting into sports practice days for the older boys, with game days on the horizon, so our usual weekday schedule may be unbalanced for a few months. Oh well.

Happy Wednesday all!

Ahhh…back half of the work week! It was a relatively calm day yesterday for weather but the storm did give us one last kick in the pants early evening through last night with another round of moderate rain. Tough OT workout last night, but was rewarded with a Chick-fil-a spicy chicken sandwich!

Great shave this morning. Using BDC to wrap things up reminded me I haven’t really touched Sauvage Elixir yet this cold season. May have to remedy that tomorrow.

IDT first thing this morning, then we’ll see where the hospice wind takes me.

Happy Thursday all!

Fridaaaaaaay!

Great shave this morning to get me movin out of bed. Cold morning, brrrr. Everything worked together in concern for excellent results. Finished with TWO spritzes of the atomic Elixir. I’ll definitely be blasting away people’s nose holes today! So good!

Should be a fairly chill day *knock on wood* at work. Some time at the EOL facility first thing, then a home visit or two.

The missus leaves this morning through Sunday noon to Mammoth for a b-day girls weekend for a friend. So is men will be having a Lord of the Flies reenactment over the next couple days.

Happy Friday all!
