Shave #259 (800 Open Blade Shaves) of 2023:

Gear: Gillette Prewar Tech, Astra SP blade, Stirling 2-band synth brush, Clown Puke tub soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe, Nivea Sensitive AS Balm, Speick AS, and Prada Luna Rossa to finish!

Forgot to post this morning, whoops!

Today marks a sad day…the journey back toward London to start wrapping things up.

But we made some awesome stops on our way to York!

First was Bamburg Castle, a walled defensive castle of Northumbria, set on the coast with a known history of 1400+ years. Unfortunately, again, the panoramic of the coast is too big to upload.

This window is quite picturesque in its framing of one of the castle’s ocean views.

We suspected some Harry Potter scenes may have been filmed here, but couldn’t confirm. A cool surprise though was that parts of The Last Kingdom were definitely filmed here though and they had quite a display set up with many pieces from the production.

Our second stop was only about 20 minutes down the road, Alnwick Castle. This is the actual home of the Duke of Northumberland (they winter here and the castle closes to visitors that part of the year).

No photos were allowed inside unfortunately, you can imagine it was pretty posh though.

The good news was that some Harry Potter scenes were definitely filmed here and were vaguely recognizable. The next pic may give you a clue to one scene, as some “students” learn an important skill for any witch or wizard.

Then, we made the final leg to York. Another cool city where ancient history lurks around every corner of modern day.

York Minster is one of those that dominates the skyline, among others.

An interesting name for a street.

An encompassing shot of York Minster. It pales in comparison to the towering, view filling, awe of standing next to it.

Constantine sits nearby, a reminder of Roman influences in the city.

St Wilfred Church, on of many magnificent churches that pepper the area.

Views of York’s river, the Ouse.

A little bit more exploration of York after breakfast, then the last leg of the trek to London.

Le sigh.

Another day of travel. Spent a small bit of time soaking in a little York one more time, then headed out.

Ruins of St Mary’s.

Didn’t make it to see Jorvik, the Viking center experience, but hey…here’s more a Roman influence!

Made it back to London with little fuss, just took longer than expected, as it seems to usually do.

Saw this on the way to drop the car back off.
IMG_4316.jpeg

The missus became obsessed with finding Blenheim Bouquet after using it at one of our previous stops…so it was one last visit to the Penhaligon’s Boutique before dinner.

Last sunset in London whilst eating some Portuguese food. A tasty and simple finish to a great trip.

Today’s bonus photo:

A site fairly rare for us Californians! Wonder if there’s any two headed pigeons about. 🤔

Up a bit early, packed…and made it through the rat maze that is airport check in and security.

“Let’s be conscientious travelers and pack everything nicely for our flight. This is a pleasant fiction is it not?”

“We need this, that, and the other displayed and out of your bags post haste. Rip through your bags to find them as you receive constant pressure from other passengers and personnel to move along.”

“Now throw everything back together and move along. Don’t forget your shoes and belt.”

Now if you did those announcements in the voice of Carrot Top and Wayne Newton....you would have the TSA announcements at the Las Vegas airport.

Shave #262 (800 Open Blade Shaves) of 2023:

Gear: RR Game Changer .68 SB, Astra SP blade, Simpson Duke synth brush, CBL Fresh Vetiver soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe, Nivea Sensitive AS Balm, CBL California Sunrise AST, and DHS ‘19 to finish!

Not a bad nights rest. Woke up early but was able to drift back to sleep for a while. Then it was up for a quick coffee/baked good family breakfast out before the kids got off to school and grandma off back on her return flight home.

Excellent, refreshing clean up n shave amidst some chores to get the house back in order. Inaugural use of the Duke synth…glad to have a Simpson finally, but eh; it feels like maybe a 1.5 or 2nd gen synth knot, so not the worst but Simpsons really could have chosen a nicer feel. Moderate amount of scritch when working up a face lather, paints well enough though. It’ll see use. Did forget I wasn’t using the Tech anymore and gave myself a couple zingers. All good though!

More laundry to get through. Already vacuumed up an small dog’s worth of hair but at least that’s done.

Game time on the horizon!
