Flickering lights can indicate an issue with the neutral. In my last house the electrician who installed the breaker panel left a lot of the neutrals loose which caused the to get very hot as loads increased and flickering. Eventually it caused a breaker to trip and that's when we found it. Bunch of connections had to be replaced. We have the flickering lights, but with in-ceiling can lights (which I HATE) and only in the evening. I assume it has to do with increased load on the entire system and power distribution, but would concede to @uacowboy's knowledge of that.
You're a young buck yet. When I was of that ilk and felt a cold coming on, I'd hit the gym even harder to get my body temp up to kill it dead in its tracks. I say you hoop it up while you're on the clock this week!
