Herritage Collections Gibbs Clone

I saw that in the video yesterday. It’s definitely disappointing. I’m hoping he has the manufacturer bring it back into the original spec of the Gibbs.
I'm hoping that the head although bigger, still has the blade at the same angle and blade exposure etc.

Reverse Engineering doesn’t mean you’re going to end up with an indistinguishable copy. Sometimes slight changes are necessary. Honestly, I wouldn’t care how different it looked, as long as the shave results are the same.
Totally agree but larger head does raise questions as to the blade positioning being the same or as close as possible as he states in the video. Doesn't take being off much to change the shave drastically. Just watching closely.

It does sound like it's still in R&D so I don't want to pass judgement tooo quickly. Though I did also see a couple of red flags, it's too soon to say anything. In the end it all comes down to the shave.

Clearly not as they state the head is bigger.....
To me the bigger tell (and the thing that makes me wonder the most) is the fact that the adjustment assembly appears to work completely differently than the Gibbs. If it's different, it makes me wonder whether the geometry will differ signficantly. But as you and @HMan say, it really comes down to the shave.

Fingers crossed on this project.

True, I forgot to mention that but that too was curious

I'm following this release with interest and my name is definitely on one of these.

They are saying that its a copy of the Gibbs - more a copy of the Palmera, which is a descendant of the Gibbs. As far as I am aware they haven't said what material it is been made from, but I suspect that it will be Zamak. For me the give away are the square corners in the lather holes. Machining or stamping those are expensive.
By the way - "Made of Zamak" isn't a deal breaker for me at all.

They have made the head thicker - for better or worse, this will change the shave.
I have a Personna and although close to the Gibbs, its different and isn't as smooth as the Gibbs. In smoothness it sits somewhere between my Rex (M version) and my Gibbs.

Cutting and lining up blades in razors with my ageing eyesight is a no-no, so I made up a notching tool. When I use it, it stamps the perfect notch in the perfect place - everytime. So notching the blades is practically a non issue for me.

At the $50 to $100 price, I do believe that its going to be a seller (Unless of course its a crappy shaver)

Hi Claudio

I thought I read on IG that it was going to be nickel over brass with a chrome plating. The founder and I started a conversation in messages so I’ll ask him and post up my findings.

Hope all is well with you my friend

Hey Frank - greetings and all the best for 2020

Plated brass would be awesome and at that price level even more so. Do keep us updated.

Heritage got a raw deal to be honest in trying to bring the Gibbs Reglable copy to fruition. Looks like Yaqi outgunned them and produced their own replica. Heritage made an announcement about this on their Instagram page about a week and change ago. It sucks what happened, truly. But, the potential to make $$$ will always outweigh the ethical side of business agreements & conduct, especially with manufacturers across the Pacific on the Asian Continent. It was bound to happen just wasn't expecting it this fast.

Anyways, a link from the Yaqi Newslatter on an Australian FB shave forum and the individuals experience with a prototype.

It really is sad to see this happen to Neil. I hope he has better luck with his new manufacturer and I will be waiting to buy one from him.

I can't see the link that @GlazedBoker posted, no can I access Instagram...... Can someone post what has been said regarding these?

This is an excerpt from their Instagram post a few weeks back....

Just wanted everyone to know where we stand with the Gibbs replica. I’ve debated saying anything but now I’m getting asked questions about our Gibbs project and I want to be as transparent as I can be with each of you.
So from what I can tell the MFG I commissioned to make ours apparently had them (Yaqi) make it.
But as of our last design sample when I said to them it was close but I needed one last fix. The adjuster dial is still not working correctly. So after that last request to make yet another change ....They ceased communication with me on it. Both companies did.
Although I did not own the patent to the razor nor do I currently...I never was going to stamp the Gibbs name to it. I was calling it the Heritage Adjustable Homage to Gibbs Replica using the same respect as I have with the other projects.
So as of now the Gibbs project is on hold and I will announce any other news when I have it.
I have another manufacturer that makes our Merit design and is NOT a shaving company. They are engineers with the equipment to make a quality Gibbs replica.
This is why we did not want to take preorders. I believe in giving the best quality product at the most reasonable price and we weren’t quite there yet with the quality.
However YAQI razor has decided to make a few subtle changes and place the design in the market. We wish them the best of luck with their version of it and we will continue to update you when we have more information
We have always operated with integrity and transparency so we will find the right MFG to continue to assist us in bringing this project to life.
Thanks for your continued patience and support.

That sucks. A lot. I'd buy a Heritage Gibbs replica over a Chinese knockoff without question. Actually, I'm pretty sure I'll do that when Neil's gets released. I'm willing to pay the premium on quality American manufacturing.

#booyaqi it's always a risk dealing with mfg in China, but man literally stealing the product out from under you.

The Yaqi replica doesn't do it for me anyway, the scalloped guard is just wrong, and smacks of a Chinese knock off, but that seals the deal.
