For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Well, the basement guy came, and it could be a couple of things. It could just be that old crack on the exterior was letting in a bit of water and that's what was causing the interior cracking we're seeing. However, there could also be additional cracks below the soil line that we cannot see and would pose a larger issue to that foundation wall. At this point, we're probably just going to seal up the existing cracks we can see and monitor for any other issues near the main beam of the house. If we continue to see issues and/or any bowing, we'd need to brace up the wall and that would be closer to $10K. Here's hoping the sealing solves our issues!

Work was crazy busy yesterday, today seems to be a bit quieter which is nice. Ridiculously rainy commute to the office this morning, I did NOT miss that during my WFH time that is for sure.

Thanks for reading!

It's finally sunny out for the first time in what feels like forever - heard that this April was the second cloudiest as well as second coldest April on record. Talk about a depressing start to spring. WFH and snuck in a mow of the lawn during lunch so that's always welcomed, especially when it's 60 degrees and sunny.

I have 13 shaves on this tub of Denton Majik Masters of the Green and used exactly 2.5g of soap, for an absolutely shockingly low 0.12g per shave. I have NEVER used a soap with that low of a number. The soap is soft and malleable but does seem awfully dense. I haven't changed my lathering technique either, so it sits with a layer of water on the top while I shower, then 30-ish seconds of loading before face lathering. I've never had any issues with quantity or quality of lather, it just seems like I'm not using up any soap! Very strange. Will be interesting to see how this continues, as at this rate, the tub will last 2000 shaves or more...

Tomorrow is my son's actual birthday, so I took a day of PTO to celebrate with him. Unfortunately weather is looking awfully terrible, but will be nice regardless! Plus it means today is technically my Friday, so win-win! Nothing else too exciting to report, sitting down with my boss this morning to discuss our org structure going forward so that should hopefully give me some answers I'm looking for in terms of career glidepath.

I've really been in a groove with my Schick Krona the last week or so, there's a reason I'm often torn between the Krona and my Red Tip SS when asked my favorite DE razor - it's just such an effortless shave.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend! The weather FINALLY turned here in Chicagoland which is a much needed change.

Friday I took the day off for my son's birthday. Although it was still cold and rainy, we had an absolute blast including going to a diner where your food is delivered by model train. My son is very into trains right now so he LOVED it. I can't wait to get him a Brio set at some point, as I think dad might have just as much fun as son with that one. Saturday we spent the afternoon at my in-laws house, where my SIL said "wow you smell good!" which marks my second time getting a compliment on a frag. This time it was YSL L'Homme Ultime, she has good taste! Yesterday was all about mom including breakfast in bed and dad taking care of the little guy from wake up to bedtime. The weather was gorgeous both days, so lots of family walks and I even managed to trim our trees with the pole saw and get a mow in. Successful weekend!

Next week we head to Florida for a family vacation just the 3 of us, then I come back for one work day before heading down to St. Louis for my annual Memorial Day getaway with my college buds. That means only working 1 day during the last 2 weeks in May - I'm ready for some extended PTO!! Just gotta get through this week first.

Thanks for stopping by and catching up!

Wow, fantastic weekend and more to look forward to! Great report Ryan!

My sons loved trains for a looooong time when they were younger. They really got into Thomas the Train. 🚂

I grew up with those original late 80's early 90's Thomas and Friends as well as Shining Time Station on PBS - I've found many full seasons of the original show on YouTube and my son loves them!! Looks like they just brought Thomas back in some CGI format within the last year or two but these originals with model trains from the original run are something special!

Just two more work days until it's vacation time! Today is my last day in the office for almost 2 weeks as I'll be WFH tomorrow. Yesterday I WFH as I had a dentist appointment in the morning which turned out to be lucky as a mid-morning train struck a stranded truck on the tracks, killing a commuter and shutting down the entire line for most of yesterday. Today they're running a Saturday schedule with no express trains meaning my ride in would take 75 minutes vs the standard 35. Thankfully there's another commuter line not too far from us so I chose to take that one which is a 55 minute ride in. Probably would have WFH today but since it's my last day in the office for almost 2 weeks and I have a lot of meetings, figured it was worth it. And still much better than driving all the way downtown.

Nothing else too exciting going on, need to pack everything up for our drive down to the Space Coast on Sunday. I think my wife has everything packed for her and our son, so it's really just all my stuff I need to figure out. She's too good to me!

Finished off my tub of CBL Hombres on Tuesday, what a great scent. Averaged 1.7g per shave on the little puck, which is very much average for me on most soaps. Brought out Summer Break Rope Swing and Seaforth Sea Spiced Lime out of storage yesterday as it's been in the 90s all week. Need to decide which one to bring down to Florida.

Pressed a puck of CBL Poseidon into the tub recently vacated by Hombres, looking forward to working through this puck. I don't think @CBLindsay has this on the site anymore, but to my nose, it's a nice aquatic scent perfect for the summer.

Thanks for stopping by, almost through the week!

Last day of work before vacation! Not looking forward to the drive, but very much looking forward to a week at the beach!

Broke out the Sea Spice Lime soap and toner this morning (another day in the 90s) and think I'm going to bring the soap down to the beach - it is just such a great summer scent and what better place to use the lime scent than Florida!
