Well, consensus seems to be leaning towards a nickel replate of the LC. That's where my heart is too, but there's still a part that wants to keep it looking more "stock." Decisions, decisions...
Happy Monday, Cadre. It was an incredibly exhausting and back breaking weekend of removing 8 large Forsythias and 2 mid-size Sargent Crabapple trees around the yard. I'm sure when the previous owners put all these in 20+ years ago they looked wonderful, but they were never taken care of and had gotten to the point of making the sides and rear of the house look a little crowded and overgrown. Heck, there aren't even defined beds around the sides and back of the house! I spent the better part of 2 years trying to prune them back and get them back in order to no avail. So out they all had to come. The farm jack with chain method didn't really work for anything besides one of the crabapples, so everything else I had to dig out. Most I was able to dig deep enough to maneuver the jack under in various spots to help pull the stumps out. But there were some right up against the fence in various spots where space to get around the bush was limited and even with the jack's help was exhausting.
Good news is after the weekend I've got everything out of the ground. We only get one free brush collection a year in our township where they'll take branches up to 6 inches thick and 8 feet long so there was some urgency to get everything cut down since I'll be gone for Memorial Day weekend and our collection week is right after. The stumps I'll have to lug out to the wife's uncle's acreage to dump since I'd otherwise have to pay $35 per stump to have them collected by a landscaper. And while everything hurts this morning despite the preemptive Advil, I saved a TON of money doing it myself. When we had a french drain installed they charged an extra $200 to remove a similarly large Forsythia that was in the area they were digging. Not sure I'll get to pitch that $2000 savings as more money for the shaving budget but it makes me happy regardless. Sprayed the old spots with Roundup to make sure everything was good and dead. Wife and I will edge and mulch the beds after Memorial Day and will plant some much smaller shrubs and grasses at some point in the future.
Shaves were phenomenal and something I got to look forward to after a hard day in the yard. I knew I enjoyed the NEW LC after the vintage Gillette passaround box but this is performing even better than I remembered. It's giving my beloved Prewar Canadian Tech a run for its money after a mere 3 shaves! This is a super short work week for me, as we're heading down for our annual guys trip in St. Louis on Thursday morning, so that's what is keeping me going.
