Getting good results from the Guangxi hone. Not going to replace my trans ark or Gokumyo 20K.
But does a nice mellow edge. That is somewhat “hazy” in the loupe. Similar to pics I’ve seen of Coticle edges. Very forgiving and usable edge. That’s using it with water and also some dry strokes. May try with lather. But hesitant to use oil on it. Shouldn’t be a problem. But don’t want it soaking in And being a pita. Plus water and lather are way easier to use/clean up after.
Here comes Tabac Tuesday folks.

You should try the Smith Premium HON1 solution in the white bottle. Acts just like oil but non petroleum and it cleans the stone as well. Real easy to add a few drops of water for Diluark or whatever finisher you use. Noce shave BTW

10 shaves may be the upper limit for me. On these Feather blades. Which tracks with most of what I have read on the net. In other news. Got my knots for the Brass Edition handles.
I’m also starting to try my hand at long fermentation sour dough bread. Making up my starter dough.
Hope you guys have a good Thursday.

Lots to talk about. First off. This razor is superlative. Checks all the boxes for me. Grind, tang shape, excellent steel, pretty scales. Just can't ask for more. While using it. Got to thinking to myself. "Life is too short, not to use only your most favorite razors." Now I am going to have to ruminate on that thought. Mull it over in my Cro-Magnon brain (the one that tells me to keep collecting more shave stuff) Then maybe start my "keep" list. And make another list/pile that shall go un named. Because strange as it may sound. I can't off the top of my head. Think of what something like that would be called.
Second item up for discussion. Is that I set the knots in my Fluffy Industries Brass Edition handles. May wait more than 24 hours for them to set up. So a debut on them will be forthcoming.
C-Mon Friday...get it? ;)

Busy day today.
Work had a bit more than the usual "Big Guy" stuff. On top of driving a big rig, towing a tree chipper out to the job. Once there after witnessing my co-worker Art attempt to run a chainsaw. To cut up the two trees that had fallen. The curmudgeon in me just could not tolerate the stupidity. I relieved him of the saw to prevent him from further embarrassing
himself. And bringing dishonor to his family name. Trees need to be cut up in a way that allows them to be handled and fed into the chipper. Without jamming it up or causing extra work. Also knowing which direction to cut from, above or below the branch. So as not to get the bar pinched, or wind up hitting the dirt. Plus the fact the damn trees were 100% engulfed in poison sumac (that's what killed them). I have no patience for dumbass's that make more work than necessary. Once home, I took a long shower and scrubbed down real good to get any sumac off myself. And washed my clothes separate from my wife's. As she is allergic to that stuff.
The shave for this Friday was nice. Used another cracker of a razor. My F.W. Engals Leader. This thing "sings" while stropping and shaving. It even gives a little "ping" sound when I wipe off the soap onto my sponge.

Then while I was out and about getting our take out dinner. My wife text's me a picture of two wasps that she discovered in our back bedroom upstairs. So upon my return to Casa Fluffy. I had to deal out some death to the winged intruders. That job done it was time to dig into my Enchilada's Mexicana's dinner.
Big rigs, tree grinding, chainsaws, straight razors and killing insects. There is a larger and denser than normal testosterone fog round these parts. Saw a few of the female neighbors swooning when the breeze put them downwind of me. Here comes the weekend. Bring it on world.

Had to use my beloved Tabac since I forgot on Tuesday. Then did the groundhog day with it as I felt the inaugural run with the Fluffy Industries Brass Boar Brush should be with a iconic soap.
The Shave Forge boar knot is decent. But did do a bit of shedding in the break in lathers I did with it the night before actual use. It seems to be chilling out now and hanging on to the bristles as it should. Time will tell if the knot keeps its place in this handle. Or another may take its place. Next up the Brass Edition Badger Brush.
It’s Friday folks. You made it. Don’t keel over in the heat.

Think I saw Lucifer hanging out under a shade tree today, here in Maryland. He looked miserable. Truck thermometer said 99 on the way home.
Had two more trees to cut up and clear off the roads at work. Had some extra curricular activities to take care of after work.
The wife has been whining about the upstairs toilet for a while now. So I got a new one lined up from a nearby plumbing supply distributor. Did some patented "I'm just a poor truck driver" haggling and my new bestest buddy Dawn. Gave me a smoking deal. Billed under a commercial account and I paid cash. Saved me $150. Plus I think Dawn may have liked 'ol Fluffy. Nothing gets a broad more hot and bothered. Than a guy that knows his way around crappers and plumbing.
Once home. Got my plumbers crack in gear and commenced ripping out the old throne. And installed the new one. The new type of wax seals and the braided lines that are now "standard" are very quick and easy to use. Took less than an hour for the swap. The shave den is now supercharged with an American Standard EcoFlush Pressure Assist Cadet chair height toilet.
The weekend and Pre-season NFL are here. Can I get an AMEN people?

Good day today. Ran some errands. Got a proper seat for the new high tech super flush porcelain throne. Broke out the Oster 76 and buzzed the ol' noggin. The shave was relaxing and nice.
Been hitting the Tabac soap for the last few days. And have used the Genco several times here recently. As I have been continuing my exploration of the Guanxi hone, that I recently purchased. I believe that I have come to a good understanding of how to get the most out of it. I've experimented with it dry, wet and with lather. Lather seems to deliver the best results. And I would say it achieves an edge around the 12K mark. Not as keen as the edges I can get off my Trans Ark. And definitely no where near as sharp as can be achieved with the Gok20K. But it does produce a nice comfortable forgiving edge. The Genco is pretty hard steel. And a fair amount of strokes are needed to get a proper edge. Much like the Arkie.
My synthetic stones are "easier" and faster cutting. But my two natural stones have been keeping my attention. And providing the most satisfying shave/edges.
Early in my learning about honing. I was focused on super sharp edges. That has evolved over the years to put more importance on smooth/comfortable edges.
Hope everyone's day went well.
