Fluffy's Curmudgeon Corner

Lots of things happened at Casa Fluffy this past few days.
When last mentioned here. My AC was of the fritz. Well with some help from a guy that knew how to wire it up. I replaced the air circulation 1/2 HP motor. Using a "universal" motor. Instead of the OEM variable speed motor. This was over a $900 savings. So it's fixed and working fine.

The other change that has been made. Is that I finally made the decision to get a new string trimmer. After alot of research I decided to go with an Echo SRM 225.
Should be good to go for (hopefully) many years. First order of bidness was to remove the two "plugs" that block the low and high throttle mixture adjustment screws on the carburetor. Then I removed the spark arrestor in the muffle. Next thing was to gas her up and make some noise. Started super easy and ran pretty well. Just a little lean on the high side. So 1/4 turn out on the that screw and she smoothed right out. I look forward to putting it to the test and seeing if the Echo earns my respect.

The Henckel's 412 showed up during all of the drama. And I cleaned it up a little and honed it up. Nice little 5/8 razor. Very nicely ground and made. There is a reason this brand has such a strong following.

And just yesterday my bar of brass showed up at the door. So the Fluffy Industries-Jojola Aerospace collaboration "Brass Edition" project is moving forward. Currently in the design phase. It will based on my favorite vintage brush. The Rubberset 400. With some aesthetic changes to make it more than just a copy.

This morining I finally got my tomato plants put into the raised bed that I made from some old pallets.

Have some WSBK races to watch this evening. Rooting for my boys from Bolognia (Ducati).
Hope you are all having a good Saturday.

What have you run in the past? Looking forward to your thoughts on Echo. I was down to Echo or Stihl and ended up with Stihl cause, well, it's a Stihl. But was moments away from the Echo.

I had a Stihl FS65AV since 1985-6. Bought it new. It was the smallest straight shaft they had. I was going to be mowing a church with a fairly large graveyard. That means lots of trimming around the headstones. So it made sense to get something nice. Plus my parents have 1 1/2 acres. Lots of trimming. And up until then I had to use a corded electric ugh. So it was a win-win.
The old Stihl gave me my moneys worth. It’s not getting tossed. But parts are hard to find for it and I just can’t keep messing with it.
The 225 Echo model that I got has been made for a few years. And there are readily available parts everywhere for it.
You guys will be the first to hear me whine if I have issues. I just mow my lawn and 3 others in my court for side money. So it will only get moderate use. But I have seen local some landscaping outfits with them soooo. We’ll see.

After 5 shaves on this 1996. It started tugging a bit. So a little touch up was done on the Dans Translucent Arkansas. It was back to good running order for this shave. So we’ll see if this time it makes it more than 5 shaves before becoming uncomfortable. This is all rather subjective. As my idea of tugging/poor performance. May be an edge that others would find acceptable.
The Brass Edition project is moving forward. Jojo Aerospace Solutions has taken possession of the raw materials. A combination of CNC and old school “manually indexed” milling will be used to produce the handles. One will be very similar to the Rubberset 400 inspiration. The others I have given creative liberties to him. It will be interesting.
Hope you all had a good Tuesday.

Nice and easy shave. Solid performers, giving above average results. The Fluffy Industries Brush is starting to develop a patina. Haven't decided if I am going to just let it go or polish it and seal it to keep the "new penny" look.
On a side note. Out of boredom and for no actual need. I have bought another hone to play with. It's a natural stone. That was all the rage a few years ago. And the price was right. So thats on the way. Stay tuned. Hump day is done.

Ok shave today. Which is to say that there was some irritation post shave. I think the last time I used this soap. I had the same experience. It will be in soap purgatory until it is ruled out as the culprit. If it is the offending item. Then it will be pif’d. Luckily only one other time has a soap been the source of irritation. May be one of the ingredients in the scent. As the performance feels on par with other good soaps I have. Who knows.
Hope you guys are ready for Friday.

Glad you got the AC fixed and a new trimmer is awesome. I have some version of the Echo 225 trimmer. Bout it from one of our local mower and equipment places. Bought it new in 2016 and use it for my home and my mother's home and the occasional neighbor's yard. Since I live in Louisiana, it's yard cutting season year round. it does slow down around October a little, but then picks right back up in March...but you still cut year round. Anyway...it starts right up every time...that is if I don't do anything stupid to it! Hope yours works out for you.
