Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

Watch out for him(Barber Dave) Doug. I used talcum powder for the first time yesterday cause of him. And was eye balling the bottle of dish soap we have in the kitchen.
I agree that @BarberDave can be quite the enabler. I am considering picking up a second bottle of Pen's English Fern because of his videos and because it is discontinued. I am also considering a few other Pen's scents. But, JNats are a deep dark hole that I simply can't afford right now. There are plenty of things that I have picked up this year that were enablement purchases. This one is an easy no right now.

No shave today

Sometimes you need a day off.

My neck is feeling better today. I think the day off will really help. We will see with tomorrow's shave.

Gear
The Primitive Man is a really cheap cologne. I picked it up at Wal-Mart, but I also really enjoy it. It has great citrus notes that make for a simple yet satisfying scent. It punches above its price point.

Other Thoughts
Mondays really suck after not sleeping well.

EDIT: I am considering having Monday be a permanent 'no shave' day. It would probably help my neck irritation problems. We'll see.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Whenever I get irritation I automatically sideline my shaves for two days. Raking a sharp blade over irritated skin is no fun. Hope your neck heals up for your shave tomorrow.

A fabulous low-irritation shave

My neck is improving. I certainly didn't add any irritation to it. There are still a couple of trouble spots, but overall things are getting better in that area. The lather was off the charts today. Just slick as hell. And protective. Just really great stuff. The razor did its job perfectly for mostly BBS. There was a small spot of roughness left over my Adam's Apple. The alum gave no feedback on my neck. Yay! This was a great start to the day.

Gear
The Sudsy Soapery soap is one of the slickest that I have used. It may even be slicker than SV. I am more than pleased with the performance of this veggie soap. I also like that the scent of the soap is not overpowering. I love having good smells while shaving, I just don't need them to be in my face.

The Sudsy Soapery ASB is really good stuff. It leaves my face feeling moisturized and conditioned, but it can be kinda greasy. I am still trying to dial in the amount to use.

Other Thoughts
I have a couple of things that I am waiting on that are coming from overseas. It is hard waiting for them to arrive.

Nice read! That soap sounds like it would be a great scent around Christmas.
If there were Frankincense in the mix, I would agree. I find it to be a warm scent, so perhaps more of an Autumn scent than Spring or Summer. Either way it is a subtle and pleasant scent.

For Christmas scents I recommend Stirling's Christmas Eve or PAA's Magi.

Christmas Eve was already on the list, but Maji sounds awesome! Thanks!

If it's good enough for Christmas, it's good enough for June. I don't abide by seasonal usage. If I like it, I like it all year long. :)
Agreed, however I do make an exception for Christmas scents.

PAA Magi is Frankincense & Myrrh turned up to 11 and something that definitely smells like Church/Christmas
Christmas Eve smells like the Christmas candles that we had when I was a kid.

TIL: I really need to slow down while shaving

I was feeling pressed for time so I felt the need to go faster. My face and neck suffered a bit. The shave is BBS-, but there was alum feedback and I have some residual irritation. I think I used too much pressure and my angle was a little off. My face has changed since losing weight and I need to get back to basics a little.

Gear
The Zorrik Super Platinum was decent, but it scraped me a little. I think it is not as smooth on my face as some other blades are. But, this was just the first shave. I need to spend more time with it in different razors.

Curve for Men... This is a very green and fruit forward cologne. It is light and would be good for summer. I am not sure it is a great scent for me, however. I don't mind fruit in a scent, but I would like a little something more, perhaps some more woody notes or spicy notes. I am glad I only bought the 0.5 fl. oz. bottle. This is one that I probably won't replace.

Other Thoughts
Credit card fraud really sucks.

It has been a long time since I have felt the need to rinse a fragrance off, but there is something about the synthetic smell of the Curve that I had to get rid of.

This is one 1990's throwback that is not for me.

There is a Curve scent that my wife loves. It's a female scent though. Lindsay actually made it into a soap for her, after I sent him a sample.
