Hump day...

Shave Quality
Today's shave was a bit rough with the Fatip Piccolo. I had some irritation that lasted a while. It is going away now. The lather was good, so I probably had the angle off. Despite that my face is smooth, so good enough.

Gear
The Fatip Piccolo is a really well built razor. It is all brass and has a great feel. I used to get great shaves from it, but now-a-days I am finding it a bit rough. Maybe I need to spend more time with it.

AV Musk is good stuff. Not as good as AV Ice Blue, but good. I am not a huge musk fan, but this does have a pleasant aroma.

Other Thoughts
Not sure if I feel like going to the game shop tonight. Feeling a little anti-social. We will see how I feel at the end of the day.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

I have a read a lot about the Piccolo, and had considered picking one up a few times, but never managed to pull the trigger. I did get a Fatip Grande off BST for a great price though, and it has given very nice shaves.

The Grande has the same OC head as the Piccolo, so they should give similar shaves.

New Razor Day with an old-school fragrance.

Shave Quality
First shave with the Prismatic today. It left me with a single nick and some razor burn both on my neck, but the shave was really close. The lather was more dense and creamy than it has been in recent days. More on that below. I am definitely BBS after this shave. Hopefully the irritation won't hand around long.

Gear
The Prismatic is a clone of a vintage razor from Kirby, Beard, & Co. of England and Leresche of France. The blade is held somewhat flat in the head, which is also quite thin. This is a razor that requires a slow shave and attention to details due to the amount of blade exposure and lack of blade support. This is one razor where riding the cap is not just a good idea. It scraped me and bit me today, but I think that this razor could be a source of amazing shaves with a little more TLC.

At the end of 2019 I picked up three new badger brushes. All have Silvertip, or better, knots from China. I also have the Brad Sears 30mm CHS (a.k.a. Yokozuna) from @Dagwoodz, a vintage Made Rite badger with original knot, and a Silvertip from WCS. These brushes are all great. I have been using them to try and get them broken in while learning to appreciate them. They are soft on the face and whip up a very excellent lather in my lather bowl. They feel luxurious. They hold a ton of water. And, once the funk is gone, they are really a pleasure to use. However, synthetics are better. Hands down. Today's lather from my Yaqi with the soft brown knot was thicker and creamier than the badgers have been producing. It was just a better lather. These badgers are really great. I am going to continue using them and hopefully getting really great lathers from them. But, synthetics are where it is at for the best shaving lathers. Maybe if I were a face latherer things would be different?

Jōvan Musk is a classic scent from the 70's, 1973 to be exact. It isn't complex. It is a little dated, perhaps. An old-school, macho sort of scent. But it is good stuff. I vastly prefer AV Musk or Clubman Musk if I am going to wear any musk product, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with this throwback scent. I am disappointed that more people don't wear it.

Steak night! *queues up the appropriate Scrubs episode*
The wife and I were watching Good Eats Reloaded last night on Hulu. (It is a good show. You should watch it.) AB refreshed the GE episode on steak in the first Reloaded episode. This got us in the mood for steak. So, tonight is date night and we are going out for steak. I can't wait.

A Musky Clubman Friday...

Shave Quality
Today's shave with the Prismatic was much better than yesterday. A lighter touch definitely improved things. The lather was great and my face is BBS. Happy Friday!

Gear
With care, the Prismatic gives an excellent shave.

The CBL Tonsorial is near death. The puck has broken apart and there are only a few small crumbs of soap in the mug. I give it one, or maybe two, shaves before it is gone.

Looking forward to starting One Blade February tomorrow!

Other Thoughts
Steak was good last night. There are other places that are better, but this was good and affordable.

Feeling pretty good on a Friday.

Friday's are almost always good, IME. haven't used the CBL-T Money yet. Using Sir Fougere right now. I see you got over a month from your puck. Looks like I'll be rocking the fougere for awhile, as I had shave #2 with it last night.

A moment of silence for another dead puck?

Shave Quality
Well, the CBL Tonsorial Money BETA gave up the ghost today. There were a few small crumbs of soap left in the bottom of the Old Spice mug, but not enough for another shave so down the drain they went. The final shave with this soap was superb. The Variant moved across my skin like it was gliding on air and left me wonderfully smooth. It was a great shave to end a 3017 on.

Gear
Variant + Treet Black = awesome!

The CBL Tonsorial is amazingly good soap. I am looking forward to my next opportunity to shave with it. It is good soap that leaves my face feeling great. I am sure that I will be using and buying tons more. But now it is time to start another 3017. I was going to start on my puck of LEA Classic in the wooden bowl, but since it is February I have decided to go with the puck of Stirling Rose that I purchased back in 2017 with the matching AS splash.

Other Thoughts
It was really warm today, like in the 60's but we are supposed to get a dumping of snow on Monday and Tuesday. Isn't Denver weather great?

It was a good shave today. Stirling doesn't disappoint. The results were DFS+. However, there was some burning with the shave. I will give it one more shave to see if it was just a one off thing. I have used rose scented things in the past without problem, however.

Gear
I think I may need to spend more time stropping the Treet blade if I am going to get a full month out of it.

Other Thoughts
Having a nice weekend.

Nice post! I too use the Lucky Tiger Face Tonic when I use lighter scented soaps, and I really like it. It is really fresh and it does not make my hands or face sticky. I'll have to try out their balm sometime.

I love the Stirling Rose and it hates me. Face burning aside, I came away DFS today because I tried to change things up. There is no lasting irritation, but my face is nowhere near as smooth as usual. All around, it was kind of a disappointing shave.

Gear
I have used products containing rose many times in the past. I am not sure what makes this one different, but the face burning tells me I need to stop. So, today will be the last time I use this soap. It really bums me out since it is a captivating scent that I really, really want to keep using. It reminds me a bit of vintage Old Spice, like it was made with some of the components that Shulton used back in the day. Thus ends the 3017 attempt with this soap.

Other Thoughts
It is snowing in Denver today. I hate snow, but we really need the precipitation.
