Tennessee has had a total of 96489 cases, with 2553 new since yesterday. 57239 have recovered, and 978 have died. 4244 are hospitalized.

State wide we have 421 active cases and 13 hospitalized.
And a whole lot of people untested and therefore unknown. No matter how high or low a percentage any state has. It's the untested A Symptomatic that can be spreading it unknown by them or anyone else. That can change your panacea of good numbers in a hurry. It's happening right now in the county I work in. Just what the numbers don't tell for perspective.

In June they had ZERO cases with the single case reported recovered. They are now at 100 and growing.....

I'm no expert but the asymptomatic spread to me is the scariest part! Because it probably means two things in my opinion 1. it truly is not as deadly as expected and is spreading through the population quickly. BUT 2. It is extremely deadly to those at high risk and those over 65. So the asymptomatic spreaders are unknowingly getting grandma sick.

I always wear a mask around my grandparents.

And a little perspective which you can spin however you want. This last flu season 2019-2020 we had 330 Utahns die. Average age was like 50. Since Corona hit Utah in March we have had 276 die here. Average age 72. So imagine if the flu had asymptomatic spread!

What bugs me more than anything but shouldn't surprise me is people's selfish nature. I have chronic asthma and have trouble breathing all the time especially when exertion like work but I wear a mask when working near people or indoors. It's a state mandate LAW now in KY trying to catch the doubling of cases all of a sudden the past 2 weeks. Just went to a large hardware store to get some nuts and bolts. I have my mask on as I approach the door and see the mandate requirement sign on the door that ALL must wear mask. I'm greeted by a women employee with one around her chin. Mouth and nose exposed. I immediately see 3 other employees with them around their necks. As I walk to get what I need I see 4 other employees with no mask at all. What's the point of making restrictions that people including owners of businesses totally ignore. No one cares till their loved one dies or is gasping for air. SMH

Sorry John. Not trying to be. I'm as neutral politically as you can get and I'm not a scientist or expert. I know we can and are lied to. But when the government sets out laws I obey them. I'm just saddened by people's apathy towards fellow humans.....
I agree. I'm glad that the numbers here aren't bad (which instead of being happy for us Mainers people seem to be upset). Some how posting anything positive is seen as political.

I wear my mask for others! Plain and simple.
Running into the store now.

We had low numbers and could be in good shape thru this being in a rural setting but won't because of people's attitude. Be safe buddy.

I'm glad monkey man doesn't have to deal with the big numbers we're seeing almost everywhere else. I certainly hope it stays that way. I do have to say the pattern seems to be it just takes one match to set off the blaze in areas that aren't already burnt through.

Remember, only you can prevent forest fires.

Don't have numbers like you Dave but like you said fires grow and spread. Just talked to my dad and the 90 cases from 4 days ago is now 143. More than a 50% jump in 4 days. Not good.......

The numbers there are pretty close to ours here, Maine is doing great!

If I had to guess why any negative reactions, it might be folks conflating their situation and yours, so they are perceiving it as dismissive. You made a really good post a week or so back that cleared it up for me anyway, since I had no idea that Maine was in such comparatively good shape.

But I'm definitely the curmudgeon here, who wishes our Govt would require masks, at least in confined spaces, public transport, etc.
An ounce of prevention and all that.

I've got asthma too, like @Dave in KY. Thankfully my work lets me stay at home, and the Mrs is ok with taking care of most of the outside errands.

I like Bob/ @beginish 's mantra as a guiding philosophy: "Don't kill grandma"

This is probably what is going on. I dont think I have been dismissive of anyone's situation or beliefs. I actually pray for several of you and my heart goes out to you guys for the situation are in.

Here's the response to my respectful email of what I observed in there store.

"Hi David. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will continue to follow CDC guidelines."

But they AREN'T...................that's the point.........I just have to step away from this for awhile go about and mind my own business...................

I know the feeling Dave, it's really frustrating. I find mumbling under my breath helps, but my wife doesn't like it so much. I don't understand how people can go from lock down to acting like nothing ever happened. Which makes it double hard when wired like we are, I feel like I'm the only person proactively trying to keep distance here, tbh I'm glad I don't have to go out much, I get too stressed.
