Chad Uses BAD blades!

Ah ha. I seemed to have discovered the difference between the 300 and the 301. The 301 is 1 cent more per blade on Amazon than the 300.

Well today I grabbed the other Dorco blade the 301 and went for the shave. To be honest for a little spoiler alert no discernible difference between the 300 and 301.
Spoiler? Just great. Now I have no reason to watch the video.

Volume 43 Dorco 301 Use 2

Well after using this blade twice, and not noticing any discernible difference between it and the 300 I am ready to call this one. The shave today was more of the same. Good but not great, DFS not BBS. However the blade is pretty solid actually It delivers consistent results over the last 4 shaves.

So here is the rating system:

****RATING SYSTEM****
TRASH: Can't get a good shave. This blade is horrible. Never use again.
BAD: A bad blade but technically still got a serviceable shave, but have no desire to use the blade again.
GOOD: It was good enough that if I have another blade I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
100PACK: This blade was good enough to warrant stocking up!

With that being said I feel comfortable rating this blade as GOOD. Here are the updated lists for everyone:

Volume 44 Dorco Prime Use 1

Well on deck today is the Dorco Prime. I have a pack of ten of these and had used one of them a long time ago. So this is technically the second time I I have used this blade.

So this blade is from South Korea but made in the Vietnam plant. It is Platinum coated and then has a double teflon coating that is for smoothness and longevity. From my research this is the same steel that Dorco uses on the 300/301 blade, but the treatment of the blade is what sets it apart. The packaging on this blade is also very nice. You can tell that Dorco is trying to make this more of an elite product and one possibly change the perception of Dorco being the cheap okay blade. This is not my picture but it does show what I am talking about

So the cost of these, they are not sold currently at WCS or Italian Barber. However at Amazon and Maggards you can get these blades for just a little under $12 so coming to .12 per blade. But if you look a little harder you can get these from around 8 to 9 cents per blade.

So the shave today. If you watch the video after the first pass I felt like the shave was actually much smoother and no resistance while sliding the blade across my face. While rinsing after the first pass I wasn't as close as I usually am with my preferred blades. However the shave was much more comfortable. During the second pass I felt much more comfortable to do more aggressive maneuvers doing the gillette slide, and a true ATG pass. I also did some blade buffing. This left me with basically a 95% BBS My very lowest part of neck is where I am DFS. The shave was better than the 300/301, but still not sure it warrants going to a 100 pack rating. Those blades I have there provided the perfect sharpness, comfort, and longevity. So we will see where this one goes. It might sneak into the 100 pack rating or just be in higher spot in the good rating. Time will tell.

1.Does the little mustache class up the Prime or actually make it cheesy?

2.Wow better than Shavemac for the Sterling .. I know they are great but, that is saying something. I know the silver tips can be had for like $35.

3. Nice report Chad.. can't wait to see where it comes in overall.

\n\n1. it is gimmicky for sure and you can tell what they are trying to do. Will it work for some? Probably \n\n2. That is just my opinion for sure. And I should have clarified I prefer the Stirling Fan shape to the Bulb shape\n\n3. Thank you sir.

Good stuff Chad...interesting on the Dorco blades, sounds like the Prime Dorco would be the way to go. Though, if you aren't getting that perfect shave out of it, I wouldn't put it in the 100 pack rating category. That should be reserved for those blades that have that perfect balance of sharpness/smoothness/comfort for you.

Thanks for following along Josh and I definitely agree with you.

Volume 45 Dorco Prime Use 2

I want to like this blade I really do. But the truth is after the second use, and after going back and quickly watching the Blue Bird video I was able to determine that it is definitely NOT in the 100 PACK category. Also evidence enough to confirm that as I go through this that ranking them even within the given category is required. So thanks to whomever recommended that.

Anyways the shave today actually went well, but it is not getting me as close after the 2.5 passes that the 100 pack blades are. However I could see myself adding tucks of these blades occasionally to orders to hit free shipping. This could be the perfect inexpensive travel blade, mild, reliable, smooth, and a decent shave each use. Next up is the last of the Dorco blades... the Dorco Titan

Volume 46 Dorco Titan Use 1

Well today is the Dorco Titan. Another new blade from Dorco appears this is from 2018 or late 2017 when they hit the market. They are made in Vietnamese plant and are double Teflon coated, but don't appear to have the platinum coating also like the Prime blades.

This blade provide a very nice comfortable shave. People claim they are sharper than the Prime blades, if they are to me it is very minimal. I do think the Prime blade was honestly a tad bit more comfortable.

Not to jump to conclusions as I will use the blade at least once more but I don't think any dorco blade will rise to 100 pack category for me.

Volume 47 Dorco Titan Use 2

Well shave 2 happened this morning and well it is more of the same. Good but not great. Serviceable. That is the best way to describe the blade. This blade isn't going to wow you, but it could also be a daily driver for someone who doesn't want to chase BBS and is happy with a simple DFS shave everyday.

The blade gets a Good rating. Here is the updated info:
