Chad Uses BAD blades!

I stared at this picture for a long time thinking the apple was going to explode or something. Nope! Just a picture of an apple...

When I get a chance, I'm going to send a couple of these Battle Brothers blades that I got to you Chad as they aren't on your list........and need to be. I'll be trying them soon.

Guys sorry for the delay here. If you didn't see in my journal I've been under the weather. Hoping to record Thursday depending on how I feel

Well doing research I ended up reading about blades made by the manufacturer. That led to me looking at tryablade. Which led me to buying more blades.

I think I literally will have one of every blade out there now.

Volume 39 Dorco 300 Use 1

Okay this is an interesting one! So let's jump right in.

This is a blade from South Korea, they are Platinum Coated PTFE blades . They come ten to a pack in a cardboard pack. These blades are easily one of the most popular blades. Pretty much everyone has used these. Although I would argue most like likely in the beginning of their journey. Then an opinion is made usually that they are bad and they never re-visit.

Dorco is a very interesting company as they also sell cartridge razors and have a USA website to offer an alternative to Gillette and Schick. The prices are excellent. If you search on their site Dorco 300 you will find these. Now here is what's interesting. I also searched 301 which many consider to be a better blade. Well guess what THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME. I know it threw me off too. Upon doing more research I was able to confirm they are indeed the same. So what is the difference between 300 and 301? Well 300 comes in a cardboard pack of ten blades, the 301 comes in the plastic container with the blade slot on the back 10 to a pack. Yup that's it. Aside from that they are the same blade.

Take it to the next level Dorco has two other blades and here is what I found out briefly about them.

Prime Double Platinum 301 : These are you guessed the same steel but have a double platinum coating according to the Dorco site, and they carry the 301 because they come in the plastic tuck.

Dorco Titan: These are Teflon coated.

So I went to Tryablade to purchase the Titan blades, and threw in a few others. Needless to say I will be using Dorco blades for the next few shaves as I go threw these.

Alright cost on these blades:

Amazon: $6.99/100 blades (.07 per blade)
Italian Barber: $10.99/100 (.11 per blade)
Maggards: $11.95/100 (.12 per blade)
WCS: $1.60/10 (.16 per blade)

So the shave today;

It was comfortable, although when getting to the lower part of my neck I did notice the slightest tugging, but no irritation. I just adjusted angle there. Overall the shave was actually pretty darn good. BBS cheeks and DFS neck. I will be curious to see how it goes through other shaves.

Thanks for reading and watching!

How interesting. I used that blade this morning too! It was my first shave with the Yuma razor. Had a very similar result too.

With a name like Dorco, it's got to be good! Personally, I don't like them. Interesting thread.

BTW: "So what is the difference between 300 and 301?" The answer is 1.

To be certain, I checked my work on my phone's calculator.

Double checked for you......you are correct ?

If they are the same blade, then why do they have different wrappers? And are the Prime 301s in a different wrapper to distinguish them?

Prime 301s are in different packaging. Those will be used soon. The theory that I found for the 301 being different packaging than the 300 is due to one being made in S. Korea plant and the other being made in the Vietnam plant. But still trying to figure that piece out.

So, if they are made in a different plant, then they are different blades, so to speak. Can you guarantee everything is identical at each location? I’d only say they were the same blade if they came off the same line. I look forward to your comparison of the 300 and 301 to see if you notice a difference in the Shave.

Is a car made at a plant still the same as a the same make and model made a different plant?

Now obviously this is a .07 balde not a $20k car. But I think it would be safe to assume they are same specs. You read on the USA Dorco site and the Korean Dorco site (using translate) they clearly do not differentiate between the actual blade.

Yes Chad, did you contact Dorko to confirm the differences between the 300 & the 301?

Also, I was noticing that you are still using a mighty thick coat of lather. Didn't you hear? Thin is all the new rage in lather.

Thank you for the report
