Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Razor: 3 piece All Brass Prototype Razor (to be available soon)
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (2)

Brush: Stirling 24 mm Synthetic

Soap: Vintage Williams Tonsorial

Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Florida Water

While yesterdays shave had no drama, I did have 3 weepers around my sensitive area of the mouth (not unusual after working in 20-32 degree temps for the day). But they sealed quickly. I was curious as to how it would go with another shave just 14 hours since the last one and whether the weepers would be expanded and aggravated further. 3 pass shave with some cleanup as I did some chasing and not a drop of blood. Yep yesterday can be chalked up to dry weather skin and 1st meet up and getting acquaintance with the razor. It's hard not to try out a razor without comparing it to others you have used. I don't see this as a mindless shave similar to the Rockwell but it's getting close to that after shave 2. I think you need to be more mindful of the angle but it delivers a similar smooth shave with efficiency similar to a 3-4 plate. Not quite at the 5 plate for efficiency but I can get a 5 plate shave from it with attention to angle and and little more clean up. It's build tolerances/finish aren't the same as the Karve but it smells like the Karve's brass ? I'm told if things align some may be available with Rhodium or Gold plating. After a 2nd shave, would this replace my Rockwell or Timeless? No, but at the entry price I would definitely be interested in one. Already looking forward to tomorrow's shave 3.

With a little talk of Williams on the forum I decided to go with the Vintage which I know lathers better then the modern from discussions. I produces a slick as snot lather that gives a shave you'd be happy with the rest of your life..........if you couldn't have the nicely scented artisans soaps available now Let's be honest, it smells like soap. Not bad but I like the choices we have now. Still I enjoy using this occasionally to remind me of the past and my 1st use of Williams back in 1980.
Have a stupendous day Cadre !! I plan too

Excellent Shave today Dave...despite the weepers! I am paying very close attention to your reviews on that razor...it's an absolute beut!

I dunno, those big chunks missing out of the handle don't appeal to me. Would rather the grips flow into the design more.

3 I was shown

Thank you for keeping us on the inside loop with this on Dave. Like Nurse D. I am not a fan of that particular handle's look but the one on the left is great.

Suggestion and sure you know this. Maybe a little bedtime lotion on the face on those cold days might help with the weepers

If those 3 are all solid brass, I think I'd go with the one on the left. I like traditional handles. And the one you have looks really heavy.

Good shave Dave! The head looks fairly generic, like Maggards/Asian import generic, but I guess that’s to be expected if we want lower prices.

Good observation Chris and yep, cheap is a tradeoff at times but not always a bad one if circumstances call for it. As far as weight, I can weigh them when I get home. Total razor weight for comparison when I checked was Rockwell 6s Plate 5 at 4.2.grams and this one at 3.8 grams. The Rockwell was a tad longer so that may have been some of the difference. Back to work now.

Razor: 3 piece All Brass Prototype Razor (to be available soon)
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)

Brush: Paladin 26 mm Lemon Drop Falstaff

Soap: Ballenclaugh Honey and Tobacco

Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Avon Cool Sage

Third shave in reviewing this razor and another nice effortless shave. Have a video uploading to post so you can get the thoughts I gave while shaving. I see this being a nice budget daily driver all brass razor and will keep the Cadre posted about availability, although I'm hoping the producer of it will check out the Vendor page of what's required and join the Cadre as a Vendor shortly and give you the scoop themselves on this and whatever other products he has now and will have in the future. I've got a long day ahead of me today where the bulk of my work is about an hour south of me. But I'll be on throughout the day. Have a great day Cadre !!

Watching your video as I type this. The Ballenclaugh Honey and Tobacco is a really intoxicating scent!

That razor looks really nice...but man...that blade gap is REALLY big. I am thinking that razor would be WAY to aggressive to me. But you may have already addressed this and I just missed it. Great shave Dave!

On Edit: Whoa...I just turned on the caption option! That is awesome! And did I hear you correctly...your wife makes Sourdough Bread? If there is a bread that I can eat...it's sourdough! Guess I will be visiting you and your wife sometime!

Thanks for watching and commenting Don. Caption option, awesome? Is volume too low? Don't know how to fix. I talk softly cause she's sleeping still. Yep, she's well known for her sourdough bread in these parts ?
