Bingo Game #51 - The Musical

@BarberDave

Uhh, I know you’re an owner and all, but you only won the right to a single bonus call.

(@Bob MCk won the people’s choice and gets to make the other bonus call.)

@NurseDave yesterday just got incredibly lucky and won the right to make both bonus calls on the same day.

So, which of your calls would you like to keep?
oh ok Sorry I blame it on @NurseDave so I will delete the B11

Oh and forgot to mention this blues hit which is a propos of our little forum perhaps

As you might guess, Lucille Bogan wasn’t talking about a barbershop. There is an explicit “secret deep cut” NSFW (or this forum) version of this song out there in case the innuendos escape you. Enjoy!

Good Morning Bingo Players. Our easy call for today is N40.

Today is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and it’s also a Wacky Wednesday!

So today I’ll make our theme “Weird but Wonderful”

My example of today’s theme, submitted for your listening pleasure, comes from Olivier Messiaen’s Turangalîla-Symphonie. While the whole piece is pretty astonishing, it’s the section called Chant d’amour (starting at *not a call* 7 minutes 10 seconds *not a call* in this recording) which just knocks me over every time I hear it. The piano/brass/percussion are supposedly representing the Earth and stone and hard things, while the Ondés Martenot is the infusion of divinity and love. The silence and then sudden filling of the room with sound provided by the Ondés Martenot always gives me chills (or perhaps a frisson as M. Olivier might say).

O61 Messiaen was an interesting guy. A wonderful and at time challenging composer, a devout Catholic, and the organist for his local church nearly up until his death. These passions converged in his 1969 composition Méditations sur le mystère de la Sainte Trinité for organ in interesting ways. Check out this line of music:

What’s your choice for “Weird but Wonderful” Wednesday? Post it up by 1700 Eastern for your chance to win a bonus call.

When I think of weird and wonderful, there are a few that come to mind. But what sticks out to me is Loser by Beck. Filled with non-sensical lyrics that were largely improvised, yet it's so catchy that you probably know all/most the lyrics and could sing the whole song. This song wasn't even meant to be released, but was after a few people heard it and thought it could be a hit, and it was!

You want Weird??? You got the Weird.....it's the most Weird guy in music....it's Weird Al!!!!

I have no idea what the calls are but here is my song. I happened upon the whole CD in a clearance bin and remembered this being on the radio. I bought it and it was filled with glorious spoken word pieces.

Ok. 5 Eastern has come and gone. Voting is now open. Remember, you can’t pick your own song, but what will the group choose?
Today’s Cadre “Weird but Wonderful” playlist is

A. Frank Zappa - Approximate
B. Beck - Loser
C. Weird Al Yankovich - Eat It
D. *not a call* 2NU - Ponderous
E. Arlo Guthrie - Motorcycle Song
F. The Doors - The Soft Parade

post your vote on this thread by 2200 Eastern to tell us the people’s choice
