B&M - they fell out of favor with me.

Thanks Chris, and I like you find them "Meh" now and will not be replacing .

Very lazy mid-afternoon shave today. Putzed around the house in the morning and decided I needed to get moving if we were going to get to the fair this evening as planned. Today was shelf two of the Soap Locker (of 8 shelves) and the London Barbershop was called to the plate. This is great stuff (Thanks Craig) , and it is right up there with the other Barbershop scents. Yes I will be getting Mike's soon.

The Mistress Heljestrand was in typical form as the reigning Queen of the razors. Strop and go with here and she always delivers.... Although sometimes with an angry kiss. Like Arne this is one of the few razors in the stable, that makes one pause for concern. So simply shaped, unassuming, but capable of giving you the best shave of your life, and also the biggest injuries. She have done both, and luckily today it was a good day for her and ultimately for me, LOL

3-passes + a tad of cleanup and DSBBS (g) (10). She was in a good mood. Finished up with Cool Water, of which I had used in awhile. Synthetic yes, a clone of GIT? Not to my nose. A good standalone and very nice.

Looking forward to Season 2 of Westworld tonight as well, Hope everyone is having a great day!

Great read, shave, and picture Dave!
I'm just taking easy today too. Was going to work on my scales, but SWMBO had requisitioned my workbench for a gluing back together project of hers.

Good stuff Dave. I haven't tried a Maggards soap yet. Still need to

How is that possible? But yes you do!

Great photo and set up, Dave! And I took Cool Water with me on the road! It reminds me of Creed's GIT, but I don't consider it a clone either. The Cool Water is definitely different, and I rather like it as a "stand on it's own merits" frag.

Thanks Chris I agree, and finally have the ark back almost to monolith look 1st hone coming up tomorrow maybe

Great shave as usual. I love the composition of your SOTD pics and your shaves.

Cool Water definitely stands on its own merits. It is one of my favorite frags also.

Nice one Dave! Cool Water is similar to GIT, but different enough on its own for sure.

Thanks Gents, much obliged

Another mid-afternoon shave today, as I did not have to go into the shop, however had to battle Medicare, the primary care doctor, and the mysterious thrid party who denies everything. HEHEHEHE they did not know I spent my career in the insurance biz.. God I do not miss it, needless to say they did not see me coming, and probably are wondering what happened to what is left of their butts. So it appears to be resolved for my Mother in law.

But I digress. Today's stars were the Black Surgical Ark, and Bengal. Chris ( CMH737) was having some issues with this stone and I offered to see if I could rectify and get a good edge on one of his razors. He kindly sent me his lovely Bengal as a victim....errr I mean patient, LOL.

The ark was very dull and had some pretty big scratches in it. Many of the forums and it's honers have differing opinions on whether the ark should be dull ( apparently making it easier to cut ), or being monolithic ( 2001 / 2010 the movies ) and very shiny almost like water longer to cut, keener edge. After using a trans-ark for a few yrs, I am in the "Oh My God it's full of Stars" ( if you are a movie geek you will get the reference ).

Anyway..... It was also a grayer than normal, almost misty, but a great size allowing straight on strokes rather than x strokes. Definitely a bench hone, but usable by hand as well. I spent the next week or so lapping it with 2000 grit WD and at the end some very fine SW all of course on water, and it is almost monolith and reflective as shown here ( sorry for the quality of the photo )

Once done I waited till I had some time to do a complete honing on the Bengal, and that was this morning. I mistakenly did not shave with this razor before honing, so I had no baseline. That being said and to be safe I killed the edge on a glass block and started from scratch. The bevel set easy enough on a heavy slurry and had no issues on the tomato.

Dilucot all the way to water with 25 rubbing strokes, followed by 10 x, and10 straight with each dilution to water and then to running water until it stuck. A bit of strop work on the linen and bridle, then on to the Ark. Wow, I like this stone, not quite as fine as the Trans, but boy this is good. Smith's Solution for awhile ( did not count ) a bit of water to dilute the solution a but until it stuck and then running water till a sold stick. Back to the Strops and then to the shave. ( there is a video of the final honing in the Honing thread here on TSC)

The shave:

The edge was very keen, topping hair on the arm, but wonderful on the face, smooth and not as harsh as I expected from it being fresh off the stones. I know that Chris rarely does more than 2-passes, so my goal was ot have as close to BBS at two. I myself need 3-passes and cleanup, however this was pretty BBS WTG and XTG after two passes. So Honing Success. I dont rate my edges, just look for DSBBS after shaving.

So it was 3-passes + some minor cleanup for DSBBS Grail x6 at least. Hopefully Chris will agree when the package heads back to the Peachy State.

finished off with Santa Paula AS and it was perfect for a 100 Degree day. I know this may get me shot, bit I have to admit, I like Santa Paula better than Ghost Town Barber. In all fairness however, I am an orange Freak.

Set-up:

Hope you all have a nice evening

Great job on the Black Ark!

Great read, shave, and picture!

Question what is SW?
