I have been working chronologically through my open combs for OCtober. After a run on Gillettes (OT, New Improved, New Deluxe and NEW LC), it was time for the MonoBilt. A long time favourite of mine- what a combination of smoothness and efficiency. A few days with this, and then I’ll be on to some modern OCs.
Just a 2 pass weekend shave today- still with very good results. I put this soap a slight notch below my other SV 4.3s, but still a pleasant combo.
Have a great day all!
That brush is drop dead gorgeous, Jason, just a beautiful piece of work!

I don't reach for the American Blend very often. Not sure why- I find the scent pleasant and I enjoy the Fine lather (the puck, haven't tried the new one). I really had to work at the lather this morning. I almost committed one of my biggest wetshaving 'faux pas' by not loading enough soap. I am an unabashed overloader...If I have to squeeze lather out of the knot, I get testy. Wasteful? Probably, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.
3 smooth passes with the fave MonoBilt ensued, regardless.
Have a great day all!

Great shave, Jason! I shaved with my Monobilt this morning as well! Enjoy your day!

You have a den to be envied, Jason! You''re right - this is a great place to be. Enjoy your shaves!
Thank you, Bruce. For the past year or two I've been holding to a 'one in, one out' mantra to keep the acquisition disorders in control. If I want something, it forces me to make a decision on whether I want it enough to bounce something from the den in order to get it. Obviously a bigger deal for hardware, as software can get used up. Well, in theory anyway...;)

Great setup today Jason! Fine AB is one of my absolute favorite scents! I’m fortunate to have a bottle of Rive Gauche to pair with it if I’m feeling I be the mood to go over the top…lucky to also have the Fine AB EDT for when I don’t feel like splurging with the real thing but still want the general effect.

Thanks, Chris. I don't have the YSL original...how close is the AB EdT to it? I wonder about L'Orange Noir as well...it is my Fine fave and I think I'll pull the trigger on Terre d'Hermes at some point.

Both AB and L’Orange Noir are pretty darn good approximations of their inspirations after dry-down I’d say. Nothing will rival the original scents and their depth of course, but the dupes are very good for what they are and are great value I’d say. Same goes for Fine Platinum/Aventus.

Fine may not have the market cornered when it comes to skin food, but the scents they provide are superb.

I've tried to reduce the soap den this year, with some of my oldest tubs and tubes on the hit list. A Strop Shoppe Baker Street, a Barrister's Reserve Cool, a Palmolive Menthol and a First Canadian Maximo Gomez Cuba (previous owners and base) have all seen their demise since January.
I have been trying to finish off this Soap Commander tub for quite some time now. Twice a week (Tues and Thurs) for a few months now. I saw the bottom of the tub, then smushed the remnants from the sides to the bottom. Haven't seen the bottom of the tub since. I swear it is regenerating itself at night...

Have a great day all!

Great shave! Is the brush handle metal - I dig that shade of red.

Quick question on the comment about First Canadian - they switched ownership?
Yes, handle is metal. It was turned by a friend (Evan).
As to First Canadian- it used to be First Canadian Shave Soap and was made in Barrie. Ownership changed over to the current First Canadian Shave in 2017. They have their own base, but kept the Maximo Gomez scent, amongst others. I love this scent, so bought an extra tub on sale when the old company was sold.
This was the old tub and branding:

There were two formulas with the old company. This was the ‘newer’ one and was quite good for me.The first often produced granules, apparently.

This will never do. If you're going to use a soap, use it till gone. I mean, it's a good start, but a true 3017er 3017s everything, including soap. Consider the benefits: you are creating den space for more soap, this allows you to try a greater variety, and by buying new soaps you are stimulating the economy, bolstering our credit rating, increasing our prestige overseas, thereby strengthening Democracy around the world. Take a stand for Democracy, Jason, use & buy more soaps! (y)
