Well, I had time to make some progress on the mod today, and got it to the point where it only needed a couple hours to clean everything up and refine it before I took it to the bench buffer. Then I found the deep crack that runs the entire length of the razor.

It is highly unlikely that I’ll be able to do another from scratch in time, so it looks like I’m out.
That’ll polish out and even if it doesn’t that’s not gonna affect the shaving edge go for it

Two words. JB Weld!

Eric could make the very first kintsugi SR!

I wish that were an option, but the crack runs pretty deep. The amount of work I did on the spine also requires the bench buffer to polish it out, and I have no desire to experience what happens when the spiral wheel widens that crack enough to catch it at 3500 rpm and hurl the razor into the wall.

That would look so cool, especially since the crack runs almost straight down the middle.

Well, I haven’t given up on it quite yet. I have a couple of ideas to finish it without using the bench buffer. As long as the crack doesn’t get any worse and it is still allowed to be submitted with that flaw then I’ll keep chipping away at it.

I even thought of a couple of variations of @GearNoir’s kintsugi idea, but neither are practical or likely to even work cosmetically, and if you saw the spine the way it is now you’d know that throwing a weld on the back to seal it up isn’t an option either lol. The only way is forward.

I have a good news/bad news situation to report. The good news is that after a few weeks of working 12 hours a day 7 days a week, I had a couple days off and had time to finish up my entry. The bad news is that I am an idiot. I may have mentioned a decision to not use the bench buffer, which was a good call. Then I followed it up with the decision to use it after all in order to have everything done in time to get some R&R. As predicted, the buffer caught the crack at 3500 RPM and shot the razor into the wall. No injuries were sustained, which I am very grateful for, but the razor is now well beyond repair.

Since this particular dream is dead, I'll share the almost-done and after pics for any that may want to see them.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with. Setting aside my own failure, this contest is always fun and is a great way to stretch yourself and see what you're capable of. I hope that we get more entrants in the future.

At the request of all the contestants we are going to extend the contest to allow the folks to complete the razors. So here is the NEW timeline:

Now through 12.15.2022 - Contest
12.15.2022. - 12.28.2022 -Members Choice Judging ( will have separate thread here in the General Forum )
01.05.2022 - 01.15.2022 - Auction of Razors ( 20% of proceeds to the TSC / 80% to the Choice of Charities by the Contest Winner ( again a separate thread )

Stay tuned for more updates

It looks great, Rich. You inspired this morning's shave. I'm loving the no-slip handle.

I’ll try and un-earth my little light box. If I can’t find it these show the most important parts. Conversion to a completely different profile for extra points 😜

Well, crap... I busted the scales I was finishing yesterday... I was buffing them after applying 15 or so coats of CA and a moment of inattention and the buffer took them to heaven... That's what happens when you wait till the last moment. I do have another set of scales I made which will have to work. Fail...
