Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Yeah, I left the slow pitch alone too. I’m off today also and just wrapping up loose ends from the weekend.

2019 Shave # 86 ( 141 Consecutive Shaves )
Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Merkur Super(1)
Brush: Paladin 26mm Harlequin Chief
Soap: Barrister and Mann Patches
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Barbasol Pacific Rush

Received this soap not to long ago and hadn't tried it yet. Nice shave although not a favorite performer. Nice scent which is a subdued Strawberry. Not overly sweet to me and strong scent during the shave and dissipates quickly after rinsing. I also had gifted to me a 100 pack of Merkur blades and comments were they are terrible blades. After seeing another member @Somnos using it with success I figured I owed them a try. Just my first use but no drama. A smooth shave although I don't think they're the sharpest. At this point I would put with Sputnik and Voskhod's but we'll see as we go forward with more use. Just goes to show you, you can't always go by what works for or doesn't for others. Use it as a guide as you sample it yourself. Topped off with the Pacific Rush and just loving this stuff. Glad I got a few bottles of it left. Nearing the end of the month on my work and rained out today so I'll do what can with neglected things around the house. Have a great day Cadre !!

That would be an accurate approximation of the Merkur blades, though I have not tried Sputnik, I am a huge fan of Voskhod...LOL.

Good report Dave! I think we’ll be hard pressed this week to match @dangerousdon ’s industrious weekend, but you’re off to a pretty darn good start!

Basking in the Barbasol goodness, love it!

2019 Shave # 87 ( 142 Consecutive Shaves )
Razor: Feather SS (2 passes) Injector "G" (clean-up)
Blade: Feather Pro Guard
Brush: Brad Sears Arley 26mm
Soap: CBL Soaps Outlaw
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Stetson
Cologne: Stetson

So I woke this morning early NOT because I had to, dagnabit.......Had no idea what I was going to use as I have so many new soaps to try staring at me on the shelf, that it has paralyzed my decision making faculty. Watched 2 videos with coffee while waking up @HandleBarberDave and @GearNoir both using open blades. Pushed me over the edge. I decided when I walked into the bathroom to use my new Outlaw scent from @CBLindsay Having the soap and AS/Frag picked being OUTLAW and STETSON was leading me to the obvious choice, the Feather SS. I figured I would do a single pass with it and clean up with the injector. 1st pass WTG went well and I decided to push the envelope with a 2nd pass XTG using the SS. Had a hard touchdown low on my neck near the end of 2nd pass which helped me pull back the reins for the clean up pass using the injector. Small 3mm cut that sealed quickly and I'm calling this a win. I haven't used straights for soooooo long that I'll start with shave #1 to count going forward as I never kept track back in 2009/2010 when last used them semi-regularly for a short stint. Soap was it's typical stellar self and topped off with the Stetson Aftershave. I'll get some Cologne this evening before heading to our services. Another hour before I head out the door to conquer the world. Have a great day Cadre !!
