2019 Shave # 34

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5
Blade: Sputnik (7)

Brush: Paladin Honey Noir Beehive LE

Soap: LNHC Haute Leather
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Stetson

Getting back in the saddle after a week away from the variety. Decided to go with my LNHC which I think I added too much water too quick but still got a great lather and shave with the post shave feel it's known for. The Sputnik already feels like it isn't as sharp as when I started but I wasn't home in time to start a fresh blade for the 1 blade in February and so I decided to just go with it an see if we could stretch it. I'm not going to keep with it if the shave starts to suffer though. For now it still is providing the desired results. Topped with some Stetson and I'm ready for the day. Hope the Cadre has a great day and weekend !! Mmmmmmm Chili later !!!

Yup...seven shaves on a razor is a good use of that blade to me! I know I could look it up...but what does that Haute Leather smell like?

Even if you switched to a new Sputnik tomorrow, I ‘d say 7 shaves on one blade is still a win.

Great shave Dave! Enjoy the cook off!
A great shave and chili? Life is good!
Thanks Guys "Fire in the Hole" won at the Chili Cookoff. They also had a Cream Pie bakeoff that I didn't judge but enjoyed sampling. Nice evening with people dressed as Bible Characters. They then gave hints about themselves and there lives and you had to guess who they were.
Don The Haute Leather notes from the site are: Haute Leather: Leather, amber, tobacco leaf, oriental spice, red cedar, patchouli, tonka bean, musk (fragrance oil blend) To me it's a leather forward with the other things balancing/grounding it nicely

2019 Shave # 35

Razor: Dollar Tree $1 Razor
Blade: Sputnik (8)

Brush: Sorrentino Hybrid Synthetic

Soap: CBL Soaps Ghost Lime
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Avon Island Lime

So watching everyone else with their $1 Razors got me hankering to try a better blade in mine. Even though the Sputnik is on shave 8 and dull as far as I'm concerned, it got me a good close shave leading me to feel although an aggressive blade exposure the razor can yield a good shave with a better blade in it. I did have to fiddle to get it aligned and the doors don't quite close even. I also see the rust starting on it so it's days are numbered for sure. Still, I got an irritation free shave that is close and probably last as most of my shaves do compared to the Assured blade. Matched up my CBL Ghost Lime with Avon Island Lime for an enjoyable shave and nice smelling finish. Have a GREAT day Cadre !!

I was leaning towards using the Assured Razor as a travel razor, but leaving the Assured blades at home lol. Now that you’ve tried it with a quality blade would you say it’s a good candidate? I’ll be trying it with a blade of choice at some point too, just wanted your opinion. Is it good enough to travel with, or still just a novelty?

As long as your chili didn’t come from a guy named Jacob and you made it home with your birth right intact.

Sounds like a fun evening.

I would say the Assured razor/blade pack would be a good emergency back-up when traveling...kind of like the "break glass in case of fire" deal. if you're having to use the Assured, you know the proverbial crap has hit the fan.

Well hey, with a shirt like that you either had to be the winner or a judge!

2019 Shave # 36

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5
Blade: Sputnik (9)

Brush: Sorrentino Hybrid w/Synthetic

Soap: Stirling Bonaparte
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Stirling Bonaparte

Well shave #4 for February is in the books and shave #9 on the Sputnik. It's definitely not as sharp as I like anymore
but doing an adequate job so as long as it doesn't start tugging I'll roll with it. Used my reworked Sorrentino with the Cashmere knot now. I emailed Envy shave myself after Eric says he contacted them twice with no response. Nice customer service there Envy shave........NOT. I'm not normally a complainer but have trouble letting this one go on principle. I have 3 or 4 Paladins I paid less than I have into this synthetic brush now and they should make good on their junk knot. Okay, enough there. Stirling Bonaparte is a nice orange citrus scent with other grounding earthy notes and I am still surprised that so many had an uprising about it. I rather enjoy it and am glad Rod brought it back and I was able to get a set. Back to the grind of work and a wet although warm week here. Have a great day Cadre !!!

That does sound like some pretty crappy customer service Dave. What was the deal with the knot?

I was wondering what that Bonaparte smelled like. There was a disclaimer on it when I looked at it so I just went right past it haha!

It continued to shed no less than 5 hairs every use way beyond break in period. NEVER had that with ANY other badger including Stirling which sells a whole brush with a MUCH better knot than they get for just a knot.
Bonaparte, the disclaimer is what drew me like a moth to a flame ?

Gosh I hope that knot issue was just a fluke for that one! Glad Eric could make it right on his end at least.

Good shave today. Stay warm out there!

To be clear I did pay for the repair and additional knot but appreciate Eric attempting to communicate with them. Don't know why we would reward lack of customer service with more business. I won't. I'm done with it now unless I hear from Envy Shave in which case I will update then.
