Well this sucks!

So, I was having a good month/year etc....
Then reached up for a light bulb to change it and hear a POP!
I instantly jerked my arm back and hear another POP followed my immediate and horrific pain in my shoulder!
Turns out, I have apparently torn ligaments in my shoulder (and it's my shaving hand)...
Saw a dr,he confirmed and get to have a meeting with a surgeon soon.
So,I'm learning how to use my other arm for shaving.... Wish me luck and you can now call me Patches (cause I've got patches of hair due to using my non dominant hand)
What a fun ride this is!

That really DOES suck. Regardless of the impact on shaving the shoulder damage and surgery are their own special kind of suck that I wish you all the best in overcomming.
Learnign to shave with your non-dominant hand will certainly be tricky but it can also be a great opportunity to gain greater enjoyment from the process. Since usign our dominant hand involves a TON of habbit and unconcious activity, shaving with your non-dominant hand will likely require you to go back to the basics (angle, pressure, stroke etc). AND I assume for now even the lather has to be made without the benefit of your dominant hand/arm.
On a more positive note, I have heard that doing things like shaving with your non-dominant hand shakes up your mental state and leads to better cognitive abilities. Maybe this whole thing will lead you to find the meaning of life (its 42) or solve some wicked hard math problem. Or maybe you'll just figure out how to grow a nice beard.

Good luck man. But there's hope.... it can be done! Here's a thread where we all shaved opposite handed:

Oh, how terrible! I will pray for your soon recovery.

Besides learning the left hand, which is very cool to do, mind you, you could also just take a break and let a little beard grow?

I guess now we can see if @CBLindsay can come up with special left handed tools for the matter. Left handed soaps and bowls?

I always wanted to be a left handed pitcher-maybe a left handed shaver is the next best thing
At least you're taking it in good stride! I'm no pro (ignore the Sr. Member title, lol) but I'm also learning to use my left hand more especially with straight shavettes. Like I can prepare and set myself up but once I start the shave, it doesn't want to perform because the angles and pressure is locked into my right hands muscle memory and it's like learning how to shave all over again. Fun, challenging, and potentially painful.

For you it might suck even more because you probably can't use your free hand to skin pull so you'll maybe want to rely on making faces and using a milder razor + blade combo if you're trying not to nick and make mistakes. I'm sure sharper blades are fine but that's if you have impeccable form. I've seen it with guys not needing to skin pull or make too many faces and just glide the thing over their face and practically end up BBS!
