Well just as the Olympics declare an end to the games, I declare the start to another work week. Lots of little doings happening. Work wise brings an end to a multi state strike that was going into week 4 or 5 or something. Officially I have no position on things and will state that I'm happy it seems many agreements have been made to bring our workers back. Unofficially it's always maddening to see what social media posts about things like this. There are always complaints about the cost of health care and insurance and that's a whole different discussion. But when things like this happen, the outcry is pay them what they are worth and the corporations are always bad people. What's the #1 expense in healthcare? Labor. So simultaneously people want wages raised in one of the states healthcare workers are paid the highest, and yet for everything to cost less. All why really not knowing any of the arguments at the table or actual facts supporting them.
Meanwhile, off the soapbox, the weekend was pretty good. Lots of little errands done. Got my haircut first thing on Saturday morning to get that crap outta the way. I've found the cover to the keypad for opening the garage open a few times. Could have been wind, but just to be safe I installed a camera over the garage. My buddies at K&L Wines sent me an email with several prices that were lowered just for me. I noticed they had a couple of selections from Iceland and remembered how I loved the couple of samples I bought there. Neither of my purchases were the same flavor as what I tried before. One is a birch liqueur, which has the same flavor profile of what I wanted, but the liqueur part meant the ABV was too low and it was much much too sweet. I would like it over ice cream though. The other is a special Icelandic aquavit, which is basically vodka but in Iceland it's flavored with caraway or dill. Then this one has rye bread, which was baked in a stone over heated from the ground, ripped up and soaked in the aquavit and then filtered out. I drank this during the zoom call and a cigar so I was not concentrating too much on it and my taste was somewhat altered, but it was enjoyable. The interesting part was not noticing rye until sometime after drinking I took a large inhale and smelled and tasted rye in a very pleasant way. From what I read, this one is drank straight, but their standard aquavit is drank cold as shot much like vodka. I'll pick that up sometime to compare.
