Trials of a woodpusher: Adventures in chess, backyard gardening, and maybe whisker chopping

A 9:30am-ish shave this morning as we ponder going for a walk without our buddies, who are pre-occupied with other things. The cooler weather we have enjoyed over the past few days is set to be replaced with summertime heat once again, but we enjoyed the break while it lasted.

Bridge was fun yesterday and off to the optometrist this afternoon for our regular eyeball look-see. Wheee!

Happy Friday!

There is no neutral gear on the Sam-mobile.
That’s what I’m afraid of! Unfortunately, Sam’s a prototypical Type A personality. Notice how’s he involved in all those competitive sporting contests e.g. Championship Chess, Bridge, and Power Walking across the Rockies? What’s next, Olympic Javelin Catching?! I keep hoping he’ll take up a non athletic sport, like golf or something. 😨

A late shave at ~7:30pm and the blade was struggling a bit on shave-6 with about 1.5 day's growth to mow down. Buzzed my head down with guardless clippers as well. Tomorrow will be the last shave with the blade and, hopefully, it will be fine as the whiskers will only be around 15 hours or so old.

A nice hour long walk by the lake with wifey this morning where I introduced to her the concept of a reverse amortization calculator to establish an upper guardrail on how much we can spend from our savings annually. Yes, excitement galore! She took a nap when we got back home.

You are such a charmer, Sam, a true ladies man. You ought to give the rest of us lessons. 👏

An 8:30 walk this morning with our buddies wasn't as successful in the heat-evasion category as we had hoped, so we made up for it by having num-nums at a breakfast place we had not tried before. We were all fully stuffed before 11am and think we might just get a light supper snack, definitely skipping lunch.

The post-sweaty-walk shower and shave was most welcome and helped soften the whiskers for the last use of this blade. Most likely it's back to the ASD2 tomorrow. Laundry is now well underway.

A nice and cool morning today had us taking another walk by the lake with our buddy but we decided not to go for brekkie afterwards as we were all too stuffed after doing so yesterday.

Once home, a nice shave with the ASD2 and a fresh blade was followed by coffee #3 to start to close out the morning activities.

Chiro this morning and my twice-weekly sessions are winding down soon and we will evaluate whether to continue on in "maintenance mode" or not. Most likely, I will continue with 1-2 times a month for the rest of the year and then every 6-8 weeks after that, depending on need and insurance coverage. It seems to be helping my sciatica and if treatment is included in my health plan, why not?

An 11am shave after returning home and, with the day almost half over, Tuesday is looking good so far.

TLDR: Life is good!

Up early to put out garbage and recycling at 6:30, followed by coffee and some catching up on podcasts. A 9:30 hour walk with our buddies followed by another hour chat at Tim Hortons had us home just before noon. Then it was some 2026 vacation planning for a few hours, looking at Rocky Mountaineer (not cheap!!) for my 60th next fall and that meant grabbing a shave around 2:30.

In the end, all went well.

Off to the chiropractor this morning with only 2 more regular sessions scheduled.

Homewise, I have started filtering my french press coffee through the aeropress to remove sludge for wifey. She hasn't commented so far, as she is unaware. I will ask her in a week whether she notices a difference in taste or not.

A nice and easy shave (but then again, aren't they all?) and all ready for bridge club this afternoon.

Happy Thursday!

I like the idea of filtering the French Press with the Aeropress. I do the same, it allows me to not have to grind differnt size grinds based on the brew system AND the Aeorpress is supper easy to bust out and run a cup through.
