UACowboy's Razor Restorations & 3D Printing

Ok so in addition to things like the TNNSER and pen holders that can be found on sites like thingiverse, i am working on some designs of my own that I will be able to print. The first that I am calling ready to offer is what I'm calling a 7 Day razor stand.

The base has depressions so that Straight razors can sit easily without sliding out and is wide enough to fit 7 DE razors (i don't have that many DE razors but im fairly sure they'd fit) also, this orange one was printing while I was at work and had a weird error d stopped printing one column but it was still stable enough so I decided to use it rather than toss it.
A quick question . Do you have one of the 3d pens yet ? If not they are extremely cheap online ( less than 20 bucks) and for things like that column you could lay the print on its side and using the 3d pen build that column and after a little sanding you couldn't even tell ..the 3d pens also work great for filling in imperfections and for joining multiple pieces together seamlessly....I also saw someone make a 3d bowl that looked like a captains choice bowl and they used the pen to make the medallion type piece on the outside of it. It was neat because it looked like the pottery bowls but without the weight and the breakibility of those....

I have seen those and they are pretty cool but i'm not sure i'd be very good with it, at least as far as cosmetically. as long as it works similarly to the hot end on my printer i would probably be able to get it structurally sound enough but it'd be ugly and PLA is a surprisingly abrasive resistant plastic so it may not be worth the cleanup time i'd need to spend. for something more freeform or like adding a logo by hand it could be cool but i'll probably stick to just the big printer for now.

that being said a good shave bowl is on my list of things i plan to come up with a design for at some point. just need to decide what style to go for.

My wife asked for one of the 3d pens for Christmas 2 years ago and I'm still waiting on her to use it... they look pretty straight forward and the tip is just a hot end on a stitch basically. I think when I bought hers I also bought her a starter pack of filament and paid less than 45.00 for it all. They are neat if you can draw you can use the pen.. oh I finally got a 3d printer , it's a geeetech a20 so now I just have to figure out which slicer to use and what settings to put it at and I'll be good to go. I bought it from a local shop and he assembles all his printers and does a test print with them to make sure they work before he sells them.... He said it's close to the equivalent to an ender 5 but this one has a 255x255x255 build deck so it's bigger than the ender 5.. I have been watching videos for 2 days about it but still am lost.......

Nice. I have been using Cura for my slicer. it's free to download and use and has a LOT of built in settings for various machines.

I have a good stl file for a scuttle that doesn't need supports if you need it.
that could be cool. i hadn't even thought about a scuttle yet. one thing to keep in mind is if you print with PLA(what i'm using) it will begin to soften above 140 F

I had heard that before about temp, but, most peoples home
Hot water temp is set below that and lather begins to break down if you go that high anyway so it shouldn't be a problem...I also have an stl for a 3d printed rubberset 400 handle too.

yeah, i think anything above 120F out of the tap is considered unsafe . i know some people use a kettle to heat their water though so that would probably not end well. I'm kinda curious how well it'd hold heat in since there isn't much mass to it to heat up.

I would assume it would be similar to the commercially available "plastic" scuttles for sale.

The thing that has me scared with my printer is the online presence isn't quite as big yet as it is for the ender printers so there isn't as much help from the community's.. what slicer do you use?

Ultimaker Cura

I will try it out... Thanks. Is it pretty easy to use?? Oh I guess you saw the file ?
yeah, ill check it out when i get home.

It has a lot of settings for various printers built in so in theory it should get you started pretty easy. there are a lot of settings to play with the get things optimized how you want them but it should give you a solid foundation. it also lets you preview the how the print will run so you can check details as well as material use and time.

Thank you.and sorry for asking so many questions

How does one get on this list? It looks like something I'd be interested in. actually since I will be using it for safety razors only, something like a test tube holder would work for me.

Just shoot me a PM.

On the tnnser how have you been getting the top cap and baseplate fitment correct ? Mine doesn't seem to be wanting to fit properly.
