What Fragrance Did You Use Today?

Today's Spray: Givenchy Gentleman

A pretty nice and welcoming classic men's fragrance. An earthy patchouli bomb with some honeyed woods. Wore it to church to leave nice impressions. Personally, I love it and am trying not to just wear it every day and use it up too fast.

Do you know which version that is? I'm reading that the latest is pretty close to the OG, and sounds right up my alley.

Pierre Guillaume - Habenera
Creamy semi-sweet honeyed tobacco. Super classy and elegant, a great choice for going out with the kids on Father's Day. (I don't know why it's different day here than most places, and being early November, a dreary day at that.)
I find this and Animal Mondain to be similar, with this being the dressed up classy version, and AM a litter rougher and less formal. Both are fabulous!

Happy Father's Day!

And yes, I do. It's a recent batch of the 1974 original version. You can tell them apart by the 74 version having slightly darker juice and it having a reflective silver sticker with black text on the front. The 2017 version is slightly brighter and has a black sticker with silver text.

I prefer the original as it starts off much more complex with semi sweet musky florals that delve into a woody leather and ends on earthy patchouli. When you spray it when it's brand new it can be a tinge pissy but if you let it sit it becomes a lot more approachable if you're not into that stuff. Do note it'll be very patchouli most of the time.

The 2017 is a "modern" interpretation of it by getting rid of half the notes and dumbing it down. It gets rid of the musk notes and I remember it being a bit more fruity and floral sweet, and mass appealing. You might find it having a tinge more leather and the patchouli isn't as crazy. I don't prefer it personally. The original has a specific DNA that scratches my brain the right way, especially with the very very specific "honey patchouli" blue print (kid you not this is a real thing across several fragrances from the 70s-90s, yet they all smell totally different, yet similar)

(I'm on mobile and quotes are finicky sorry for double reply)

Night and day, though. One is very sweet and young with the other being complex and mature. Up to you. If you are interested or like the idea of 2017, Giorgio Beverly Hills is a cleaner interpretation of Gentleman 74 with very similar notes.

Paco Rabanne Phantom EdT

Top Notes: Lavender, Lemon Zest, Amalfi Lemon
Middle Notes: Lavender, Smoke, Earthy Notes, Apple, Patchouli
Base Notes: Vanilla, Lavender, Vetiver

I bought this with the Amazon Gift Card I got for Father's Day after sampling it at Sephora. It is the first time I have found a frag that I would call a "daily driver". Basically any day I haven't shaved and used a splash, I am wearing this stuff.

Yeah the original is the classic, I’ve avoided the newer stuff, but your post got me looking as it’s so iconic. People are saying the latest 2025 is much truer to the original!

What brand is this? This is a pretty crazy bottle, with a log sized cap and small bottle. Reminds me of Calvin Klein Contradiction where they intentionally made it look like a tiny bottle of fragrance and a giant cap (which hid a thinner portion of the bottle within)
1970’s era Avon Deep Woods cologne. If you took the 70’s and distilled it down to its essence, this is what it would smell like.

It's got to be one of my all time favorite bottles. Would love to find some someday. Some form of Avon bottle was on every kids dresser back in the day.
