BDK - Sel d'Argent

I seem to really like marine scents in the spring here. This is the real deal, a walk down the Atlantic coast on overcast day. Heavy salt in the air, and seaweed drying on the beach and a thick fog bank about to roll in. Pretty perfect for the cool spring weather we're having, giving just the hint that sunny days are just around the corner.

Went by my favorite perfume shop yesterday on the way home from doing errands. I’ve been hitting the sandalwood hard this week, and so thought I’d sample D.S. & Durga Radio Bombay. There aren’t many smells in perfumery that I actively dislike, but there’s a particular ‘sandalwood’ aromachemical that I truly hate. I think it’s javanol. Whatever it is I get an old flatulence feeling from it that is repulsive, and well Radio Bombay is chock full of it! Yuck!

I went back to one of the very first samples I got, Parle Moi d’Parfum Milky Musk. At the time I thought it was good but not great and not hitting that sandalwood vibe. Time changes things with perfumes, and trying it a couple of times now this week, and I think it may be the closest to what I remember the sandalwood of yesteryear smelling like. Just with a little lactonic touch and lovely laundry musks, that really come out in the deep dry down. Good chance I’ll pick it up soon as I don’t think I’ll ever see the og Mysore stuff again in my lifetime.

Chanel Paris - Edimbourg
A bit harder to find, at least here. I saw it in a dept. store in Stockholm, but it wasn't the right day for it. However on the way back from Lisbon is year, they actually had it, I tried it again and loved it, and spontaneously got it.
Lovely lemon and juniper opening fresh and cool like mountain air. Wears light and easy, a great easy reach freshie with a bit of a highland twist.
