What Fragrance Did You Use Today?

Ormaie - Toi Toi Toi

From official sample, floorboards, cocoa, and a very soft lavender. I really like this one, oddly lavender isn't in the note listing, but that's how I read it. The local shop that sells it said they'd give me a discount, so I'll probably get this late in the week. It nice when you find the rare place where you get to know the staff. We've had great convos about fragrance every time I go there.

In the meantime, Pine that I sampled at the same place was really fantastic, still smelled it in the morning, a lovely green park kind of feeling. So I promptly put that on the "Christmas List"

Pierre Guillaume - Intrigant Patchouli
The name says it all, you'd better like that musty version of patchouli that smells of an era that far predates hippies and the headship variety. But if you do, this is probably the best I've tried, it feels like it should come from a more vintage-centric house.

Both the EdP and Parfum are winners for me. Lots of Lavender and Clary Sage. They are office safe, inoffensive, and quite pleasant. I really like both. The EdP is a bit more "bubblegum-y" and herbal. The Parfum is more fruity. Both are very classy. While the Parfum is a little more "mature" smelling, both of them are more refined and mature than their closest competition, the YSL Y line of fragrances. These are solid pickups for daily in the office use.

Now I need to get the Elixir and the EdT. Then I will have the set.

Le Galion - Special for Gentlemen
The most aromatic of amber fougeres. Perfect for a night at the ballet, we saw A Christmas Carol, which was borderline surreal to see as a ballet staged in Helsinki. Thankfully the locals didn't disappoint, and no Christmas spirit was to be found before or after the show. We had a great time though.

Shave soap: PAA Keepsake Fruitcake

Scent: PAA Al Fin Aftershave Cologne

I've tried quite of few PAA aftershaves. All of them have ranged from "absolutely excellent" to "good but not foe me" Today however; Al Fin seemed to lean way too heavy on talc powdery notes. I felt like a walking bottle of Johnson n Johnson Baby Powder

My favorite cold weather fragrance from Calvin Klein. An Oriental with pepper, saffron & sandalwood. But, I believe there is more as I get spices like ginger & cardamom at the top with a subdued floral note, almost violet like just lurking in the background. The drydown is woods with a creamy Sandalwood but, I also get a semi-sweet suede like leather accord that perhaps comes from the saffron notes. Dark, spicey and somewhat balsamic that if it were branded under a niche house name such as Amouage, Memo, Byredo, PdM and others, no one would bat an eye at singing its praises. It's that good of a blending from the CK brand.

Mona di Orio - Santal Nabataea

Sad to see the house has finally shuttered, but given its history, with the founder's sudden passing years back, it's not a huge surprise. Happy I managed to Google my way in to a new bottle of this last spring. The dustiest, of sandalwoods, with a floral, and coffee, feels like could be walking to a temple in Mysore. Really top drawer stuff and if this is representative of the house it's surely reason to mourn it's passing.
