This is true. There are a good number of very good synthetics available today. In fact, go grab the Stirling boar and Stirling Synthetic (both are very low cost) and you could be quite happy. I must have bought 10+ of those cheap badger brushes, only one was worth a darn but still doesn’t compare to a top shelf badger.Or get a synthetic - cheap and happy.
