TSC Watch List

Wore this to my chemo infusion yesterday…

This watch is a San Martin, the case shape being the dimensions and design of the Seiko 6105 - 8000… the watch that was a slightly less round, less popular, more elongated version of the famous “Captain Willard” turtle case. This watch of course has the Great Wave Off Kanagawa on it…one of my favourite pieces of art. It also kind of functions as a further Seiko homage, because many of the case backs on Seiko divers featured an engraving rather reminiscent of Hokusai’s masterpiece. The watch is powered by an NH-35 movement which is manufactured by (you guessed it) Seiko. So it’s my almost Seiko diver, haha.

And one of the most fun things about it is what it does at night…IMG_8818.jpeg

So depressed over the prisoner of Williams challenge that I don’t even have the motivation to change watches. So it’ll be this one for the rest of the week my only glimmer of happiness.

😂😂🤣

The Seagull 1963

Wearing it on a leather strap (in this case blue suede) instead of a NATO allows you easier access to take a peek at the display caseback...

These watches, a very budget affair, have an interesting lineage - the movement is a Seagull ST1901, which is one of the few mechanical chronographs being made anywhere near under $1000. Apparently, when China was developing a watch for their airforce, a company in Switzerland making movements called Venus were deciding to upgrade their designs, equipment and factory, so China essentially bought them outright and moved the whole production from there to China. So it is kinda, sorta a Swiss movement... "new" but also 60 years old. And made in China. It's a quirky history. I love having a mechanical chrono...even though this one is a little wonky at times. I used it to time my espresso shot today, so that ain't bad!
