The 5th Annual Williams Mug Soap 3017 Challenge!

One of my favorite items from Williams, the DE razor from the 1930s. Apparently created as a cheap razor to easily get in the hands of consumers in order to get them to buy soap. Hopefully these pics give you an idea of how they work. Very unique design. One is original, the other was nearly stripped and very pitted when I got it, and I had it replated.

11 While I was getting things together for today’s shave, I noticed the puck is getting a little pliable. So I smooshed it into the bottom of the mug. I figure that should make it less annoying to load without the puck rattling around. I loaded and face lathered as is become routine with this soap.
The Slim with its Platinum blade on its.. uh.. 16 or so use is settled in nicely for maybe a long haul. Tbh I’ve not long haul tested a blade in a very long time, and even then it wasn’t for very long before I got bored. Finished with my homemade aftershave. Lemongrass, lavender, and patchouli, with some menthol thrown in for good measure.

Very cool. Having trouble imagining how the blade would be held in place without lots of wiggle. How does it shave?

Have you ever shaved with them? If yes, how were they?

Logged another shave on Sunday with the old Williams puck. This puck is pure magic. I floated about 4 tablespoons of hot water on the soap while I showered, then dumped about half the water into my hands to wet my face. I wrung out the TSC SV brush then loaded/lathered directly onto the remaining water. The result was a massive amount of thick lather forming in the bowl within seconds. Face lathering while adding additional water a dip at a time yielded plenty of lather for 3 or more passes. Also of note was that residual slickness that remained (reduntant, I know) after splashing water on my face to rinse. I was able to do a bunch of clean up with just the residual slickness.
When I rinsed the bowl out after the shave I noticed the lather/protolather that had built up on the sides of the bowl was VERY thick and dificult to rinse away, I am sure I could have just scooped that onto the brush and made a whole new laod of lather to shave with.

I don't intend to finish this puck anytime soon but i am enjoying usign it. I will admit, not every puck of Williams behaves this way BUT the older tonsorial pucks and those that are VERY old in the box tend to be the ones that perform like magic. A side benefit of these old pucks is that they don't smell anything like the modern stuff, they smell like old soap which is a scent I prefer.

* I searched my stash of stuff and found a NOS Williams DE blade still in its paper wrapper. other than old soap and this ONE blade I don't have any William swag to show.

Thanks for looking!

Does anybody else have any Williams stuff to share?
