The 2nd Annual Williams Mug Soap 3017 Challenge!

Got my Vintage Willy out and bloomed it up for the big month (that sounds dirty). I had forgotten how an older puck smelled in comparison to a new puck. And its a beige color instead of the chalk white color they use these days. But it lathered up just as easily as I remember it always being. This will take me back to the shaves I experienced as a wee teenager with the spottiest of beards and a thin peach fuzz on my lip.

Happy to share the wealth.

Seriously, though. The shipping cost is much more than the soap cost me initially. And I am happy to eat that since this is basically a PIF. I have won several PIFs over the years and have been the receiver of a great deal of generosity from the community. It is nice to pass a little bit of it on.

EDIT: And this way I get to pass on the gospel of Williams to more people. 😁

Kudos to @dkeester. Received my puck of Williams today! You're a gentleman. Thanks for your generosity!!

I didn't know JB Williams and it might have been different if I had a vintage puck, but my "modern" February starts today. 😜

Blue Willy was created by:
- hammer smashing a puck of modern Williams in a sammich bag
- thumb smooshing
- submerging in AV for a day
- thumb smooshing some more (lots of liquid still)
- 2nd day soaking
- smooshing with a fork to get rid of lumps
- "curing" for the last day
- Ready to go!

Test Run? In other words.... you started early too.

With a puck from the 1970's....I wasn't going to wait and find out tomorrow morning that it was dry as the air in Vegas. Nope.

But it is February......I'm doing the whole month. Besides....you're not the boss of me.

(actually, you are the boss of me....please be fair in your punishment)

I fell behind a little bit. The first time I made it, I added WAY too much Brut. So I had to start over. Thankfully I have a metric boat load of Williams Mug and Brut. At least the smell is good. My bathroom currently smells like a Brut diffuser while the aftershave air dries. Looks to me like I got a pretty stable soap this time? Thoughts?

Nice tip! Any other advice for a first timer user?
Load longer than you load any soap. When you think you’ve loaded enough… load more. I like to do around 60 seconds. Spend some time building your lather too. It won’t come together quick like modern soaps you’re used to. Give it some attention and you’ll be rewarded with some great lather.

And if you don’t get the lather right the first time, or you find it dissipates on your face, don’t worry. The slickness of this soap is legendary, and it will still shave well.
