• Bowl: Doug Smith Pottery – Ceramic Shave Bowl

• Razor: Muhle – R41 (Black)
• Blade: Tatra – Platinum
• Soap: Stirling – I, Rich Moose (Mutton Tallow Base)
• Aftershave: Clubman Pinaud – Musk Aftershave
• Balm: Eleven – Unscented Aftershave Balm
• Fragrance: Maggard’s – London Barbershop EDP

Quite a while ago, a kind soul sent me the r/wetshaving exclusive: Stirling, I, Rich Moose in the mutton tallow base. This was a double boon for me as I had never tried the much-vaunted mutton tallow base nor had I smelled Irisch Moos or any of the dupes of it. In fact, I was so blissfully unaware that for a while I thought the name was just the moose declaring that his name was Rich. This reminds me, if you would ever like me to send you a sample of anything I have, please let me know. I’d be more than happy. I love to pay it back by paying it forward.

The mutton tallow base is fantastic. It is a shame that I have not yet found a scent in that base that I really like. I had planned to get just the plain sheep for the days when I want an unscented shave soap, but Talent Soap Factory had a huge sale and their fragrance-free formula was just too good a deal to pass up.

At the very least, I did buy a sheep bath bar. I love Stirling bath bars and am currently using the fantastic Mentha Scrub. I’ve found Stirling and Mystic Water to make the best bath bars in terms of ingredients, price, scent, and longevity. I learned not too long ago on one of the forums that Stirling sells far more bath bars than shave soap and that kind of “keeps the lights on” for them. Oddly, I kind of appreciated when Rod pushed the price of his bath soaps from $5.00 to $5.15. In these days where everything is becoming so much more expensive, it made me really happy to imagine Rod saying: “Look, I have to raise the price as the price of the raw ingredients is much higher, but I don’t want to push it too much…work with me and I’ll work with you.” I don’t know. So much of business to me is about finding and working with people that seem to operate in good faith. Just something I really value, especially these days.

I learned that I do not care for the Irisch Moos scent (or at least Stirling’s interpretation of it). It makes sense as I have not had luck with “green” scents. Still, I can definitely see why folks love it and I’m glad it’s a classic. I went to another classic that I enjoy: Clubman’s Musk. It’s my favorite Clubman (along with Virgin Island Bay Rum). Just a lovely barbershop type experience. Maybe not great quality, but good stuff.

Maggard’s London Barbershop never disappoints either. I hope that everyone who went to the meet up had a good time and got home safe. I went to college at Michigan State University and have great love for the state as a whole. Brad Maggard has always been kind to me, and it makes me happy that there is a specialty shop for us where we not only have products at a reasonable price, but also expertise. Another person I like doing business with. I trust him and especially appreciate the moments where he says “No, based on what you’re saying; this thing isn’t what you’re looking for. Maybe consider this one or just hold out?” I also appreciate the lengths he went to source international products for me prior to the tariff situation. Good God, I hope that ends soon. I want to try some more Mastro Miche and to buy the Extro Cosmesi Bay Rum without it costing $40.00.

Have an awesome day, friends!
