After having not using this Citrus Melody stuff for a long time I decided to go with it this morning and I’m so happy that I did because it’s delightful. The scent is so beautiful - lemon, lime, grapefruit, and a little tangerine all come together to make it so refreshing, the soap is a tallow based treasure with such thick, rich, mega slick lather that has great blade glide, the menthol sensation is INTENSE, and it’s chock full of skincare. The Stoffel balm is another South African jewel with a nice peppermint scent, it’s loaded with menthol, and it’s so moisturizing as well as soothing. The Citrus Melody aftershave is witch hazel based so it never stings or burns, it has the same lovely scent as the soap, and it’s a menthol atom bomb. Finally the gorgeous Eau Sauvage fragrance which pairs very well with this soap and aftershave completed the event. Three passes gave me a dynamite BBS shave that felt like being in a freezer!

Awesome shave Akhi! Until I me t you I didn’t know that South African shaving products existed!

Thanks Akhi!

For ages I didn’t know either. Then one day I received a Palmshave Lime cream from there and a Reitzer soap. These two are both cheap, basic, no frills commercial shaving items that are good performers but nothing really to write home about. Little by little I discovered the fine artisans from South Africa but it took a while.

This Gold Dachs Spezial is a lovely and very elegant soap from Germany that’s been around for MANY years and I received this puck a long time ago from a good friend of mine in Frankfurt. The scent is so old school and barbershoppy, I believe it’s tallow based, my Plissoft synthetic brush whipped up such awesome lather, the Super Platinum blade skated across my face so easily because of the slickness, and it felt so comfortable when I finished off. The Lubriderm moisturizer was so soothing, and last but not least the Yves Saint Laurent fragrance which is beautiful. Three passes gave me such a terrific BBS shave that I enjoyed to the max!

17th ANNUAL ONE BLADE IN FEBRUARY CHALLENGE 2026

DAY 22 – One Pass and a good bit of clean up
Edge is holding on with stropping after every shave
Small Omega ROMA is a wicked dense little brush
I soak this one to soften it up a bit even though it’s a synthetic
Overall a really wunderbar DFS/DFS+ shave result

In preparation for the 15-18 inches of snow predicted, I had a slightly chilly shave this morning with Stirling Eucalyptus Mint. Even though there is no menthol, the peppermint in it creates some cooling effects. It was a beautiful shave with 2 passes for a DSBBS result.

Another fantastic shave this morning! Great scent and lather from the ETHOS Vanilla Safi shave soap, built with the Paladin badger brush for three passes with the Karve and I finished with alum, followed by Nivea "Vanilla & Bourbon" aftershave splash.
