Soap/cream of the day

Maggard's Tobacco and Leather

Got a sample of this from Maggard's. This soap reminds me a little of DG Cuir Et Epices. Instead of spicy, you get a sweet addition to the leather.

The soap performance was good. It lathered well, and protection / slickness was ample. It's been a while since I used Cuir. I believe Cuir was a better soap base for shave results. Thus, at the same price, this is difficult to justify. Still, it does smell good. [emoji846]

Just wanted to update this... To keep the impression accurate. Smelling the soap again today, I am not as impressed. Lol. Glad I didn't go buy it, impulse style. I still much prefer Cuir et Epices. [emoji846]

CBL Tonsorial "Balsamic Oud"

Lathered a bit of this up last night. The smell is true to the name... Balsamic. It has that "bite" of vinegar. Also an almost (light) smokey accord.

What surprised me the most is the main scent, which I presume is Oud, is reminiscent of the main note in WCS Gatsby (the original). Now I know what makes that smell like it does, lol.

Great soap, btw. Can't wait to shave with it (and the 1,000 other tubs I feel like I've gotten recently). Trying to dig my way out of samples first.

Stirling Soaps Port Au Prince
What do you think of this soap?

I really like the lather this soap produces and I think it is due to the mutton tallow base. In my opinion, however, this is a soap for more experienced shavers who can adjust to the effect the mutton tallow base has on the scent which I happen to like overall. The scent depends on two essential oils, vetiver and lemongrass, and you can clearly discern both. Good soap, IMO.

When I purchased this soap. It was Stirling's original release of this soap that was one of his older soap base.

I was just getting into scents and Vetiver was and still is one of my favorites. His scent description intrigued me. As I like dirty vetivers and lemongrass.

He also mentioned that he had procured some good quality French clay that he was adding to it, for an even better post shave.

So I had a good feeling about purchasing it.

When it arrived it was quite strongly scented. I could smell it as soon as I opened the box. I know that dirty vetiver is either liked or disliked. There dosent seem to be much middle ground. But I really like the scent for a change of pace. No other Vetiver I've came across smells like it. I think the lemongrass really compliments the vetiver. Kind of makes me feel like what a tropical grass field would smell like. Even though I've never been to one.

Since it was made with Stirling's older soap base. I just get a thinner pasty lather out of it. But it's plenty slick and I have always gotten good shaves and post shave feel from it.
