Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Cella green, Gem Diamond Glide in a Razo Rock Game Changer. Oh so smooth!
Today i got thinking about how army recruiting was done in the 18th century. Yowza! I thought modern recruiting was shifty. Back then the recruiter would go to taverns and chat (and ale) people up. Then by hook or crook get the candidate to accept a shilling. Sometimes even dropping it in their beer glass. That constituted the contract. And the recruit never went home. It was out of the pub and off to camp! Mom didn’t find out about it until she got a letter or, more often, never at all.
Then there was the Navy.. holy crap! They just grabbed people off the pier and took them away!IMG_1695.jpeg

"Dear Mom,

I met this lovely gentleman 'round the pub. His name is Rich and he says he's a Major. Long story short.......I'm in the Army. Be back in a decade."

Love,
Stefan

P.S. Tell Dad the creamed chip beef hasn't improved"

Today I was thinking about the shavepocalypse of 2022. When Gillette announced they may be dialing back their St Petersburg razor blade factory, triggering a wild scramble of buying favorites that, in reality, were never in peril at all. It was in that confusion I ended up with a huge stock of Wizamets due to a comedy of errors, paving the way to the fairly healthy inventory of today. It’s interesting how scuttlebutt and fear caused by a vague news release caused all kinds of commotion.
