Ramblings of a MilkCrate

I’d recommend giving that blade one more shave before a final evaluation. I once had a razor that was honed by Alfredo that was wicked sharp, but “brisk”. It took exactly 3 shaves to “settle in”, then it was perfect.
I agree with this. I get the too sharp feeling off my Jnats fairly often. Definitely sharp, but feel a little rough the first few shaves.

The Process-
Happy Friday to ya! Early morning shave today and it was nice. I did switch up the soap/AS combo this morning, just for giggles. Now that I think about it, I changed brushes too. Man the Zenith is really soft and has plenty of both splay and backbone. The Semogue is not there yet, but I suspect it will get there with time. I hit the Mitchell's for 30 seconds and it cranked out a ton of lather. Man this soap just goes and goes, I have not had a problem lathering it at all. It started out with large bubbles on the puck. but settled down quickly and kept building and building. Had plenty of soap for 3 passes and a post shave lather. Really digging the light scent that leaves my AS options wide open.

Hit the leather strop for 40 laps and got to it. Went with my normal shave of WTG, XTG and ATG and have no drama to report. You guys called that edge right. It just took a few laps and shaves to settle down the roughness of that 12k edge. This morning I had a good shave, but walked away with a DFS. The edge has smoothed out, but it needs something... I'm not totally digging that edge yet, so I am going to play around with it a bit more. Onward and upward.

Wrapped everything up with a post shave lather and rinse. A glug of the AS and everything was right as rain! That's right brothers it's Friday, time to hit it hard! Man, I dig the Avon Clint and it's a good wrap up for the week. Trying to finish up a busy work week and get ready for next week.

Home front-
So tomorrow, the oldest granddaughter is having a birthday. Don't see her as much as we used to, so that will be nice. I think my Sunday is currently free, so we will have a mostly dynamic weekend. I will be bringing work home, so that bites. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Life is good.

Glad the shave was a bit smoother! Awesome you get a free day this weekend! Live it up!

Shave Count (DE: 303 SR: 270)

Shave-
PermEdge SR
DSC Badger
Stirling Baker Street soap

Post Shave-
Post shave lather
Thayers WH
Stirling Baker Street AS

The Process-
Late morning shave today and it was very nice. I don’t think I’ve used Baker Street in awhile, so it got the nod. Broke out the badger with the intention of making a mess. Ran it a bit dryer and dipped in water as I went. Loaded the soap for 25 seconds and whipped up a really nice lather. Had a ton left for the post shave lather too.

This is the second resto razor that I ran a full Naniwa progression on and ... my oh my. I came off the 12k and went to the balsa. 25 laps on CrOx and 25 laps on FeOx. Followed that with 40 laps on leather. Went with my normal shave of WTG, XTG and ATG and have just a smidge of drama to report. Yup, you read that right. You don’t see that often in my journal, but I had a hard landing. Went to change angles and there it was ... BOOM. This razor is very sharp. I didn’t feel the cutting, just the pressure on my cheek and then the blood flowed. It’s not too bad and stopped bleeding before I finished shaving. That was an outstanding shave and I am BBS for the win! I’ll take it, even with the fluid loss.

Wrapped everything up with a post shave lather and rinse. Hit the Thayers since I had a cut. Then a glug of the AS and everything was right as rain! Can’t wait to strop on leather and hit this again tomorrow. This one is a little crisp and very, very keen. Comparing it to the W&B, I grossly understated that razor. It was crisp feeling and very rough. Laps on leather settled it down, but it doesn’t feel as sharp. This PermEdge has a much better edge on it. It’s more like a lapping film edge. Wicked sharp and I’m digging it. Really a great shave!

Home front-
Mostly a relaxing weekend. The birthday party a bit later today. Some chilling and then try to get work work done before Monday gets here. Life is good.

Nice work on that edge. Something I do that I feel gives me a super smooth edge with losing the sharpness is add an extra layer of tape ( I almost always use 1 layer while honing) on my final hone after doing my regular laps. I give it 10-20 extra light laps with that extra tape to make the slightest micro bevel. It provides a really smooth edge and I feel like it lasts me a bit longer too.

I’ll have to try that.

CBL Sir Fougere soap

The Process-
Late morning shave today ... you know it. Went random and mixed a few bits up. The CBL whipped up a really nice lather with a 20 second load time. Used the Zenith and it is holding the #1 spot on the boars. It is a great brush. Nice backbone and super soft with no scritch.

40 laps on leather this morning. That sealed the deal and really smoothed out the edge. I didn’t trade any sharpness for that smoothness either, it is wicked sharp. Went with my normal shave of WTG, XTG and ATG and have no drama to report. The point did bite me on the opposite side by my ear. Once again, that was my bad. Not as big as yesterday and the fluid loss stopped with a rinse. Rest of the shave was uneventful and I am BBS for the win!

Wrapped everything up with a post shave lather and rinse. A smear of the ASB and everything was right as rain! Good stuff right there! That’s what I was expecting from the first razor, but I’ll get that one sorted. I guess not bad for my first go, moving from lapping film to stones. The PermEdge is ready for the rotation.

Home front-
Mostly hanging around the house working on work work ... ug. Life is good
