OK, here's my review:
Like I said in an earlier post, all of these scents are great. I had previously received a full tub of Wicked from a PIF from DangerousDon (thanks again Don!), so I already had some experience with the performance of the soap and didn't actually use any of the samples. I also received Winter and Tik Tok as Christmas gifts and have used both of those. Let's start with the scents...
Foxville: A fall scent for sure. Very spicy. I pick up a little bit of the clove, but it mixes well with the allspice and has a very slight hint of lime on the top. This could potentially pass as a variation of a bay rum to me.
Jack Pumpin Head: This one is as advertised. A great fall pumpkin scent. Not much more to say about this one.
Nonestic Ocean: This is a Bay Rum scent that is actually starting to grow on me. I would say that anyone that's a fan of bay rum would enjoy this one.
Oil Can: This is one of my favorites. The Oz description gives this one a sweet base of tobacco and vanilla which I get right away, the citrus top mixes very well with that. The only thing I didn't get was the bourbon mid. Even without that this one is good.
Polychrome: This one I'm not a fan of. I initially liked it, but after a few sniffs it's starting to remind me of a green house full of flowers that I don't like the scent of. I can't say for sure which scent ingredient I'm not a fan of, but I probably won't go after a tub of this one.
Tik Tok: This one is one that I have a full tub of. A good scent to be sure. Absolute great mix of tobacco and coffee. Not much else to be said on that. It's just a great combo if those 2 scent families are in your wheel house.
Tornadic: According to their description, this is a "crisp fougere". I don't have a ton of experience with scents, so my only fougere to compare it to is Razorock's Blue Fougere. To me they are very different, but I think Blue Fougere is supposed to be a mix of a barbershop and a fougere. Anyway, to me this one is a great scent. Definitely something I'll be picking up. My wife said it reminded her of a specific cologne, but couldn't pinpoint which one.
Wicked: Absinthe, leather and pepper. This is a winner for me as well. A very unique scent (to me anyway), the leather jumps out...but sometimes the absinthe jumps out...depends on the sniff. The pepper is always there, but never overpowering.
Winter: Cinnamon and peppermint off the tub. For me this is for sure reminiscent of winter/Christmas time.
Woodsman: Manly. Bottom line. This is another great scent. The best way for me to describe this one is a dark sandalwood. It's sandalwood, but it's also something else. Deeper and darker. It's great.
Yellow Brick Road: This is a good crisp scent I could see using daily in the summer time. I don't get much vetiver off of it, so I guess what I'm getting is the cedarwood and bergamot. I still like this one though.
On to the performance:
I don't have as much experience with different artisans as most around here, so I can't really compare to much, but I will say that for the soaps I have tried this one is just as good or out performs them all. As mentioned above, I have used 3 different scents previously and have gotten great lathers out of all of them except for one use of Tik Tok with a new brush. The great lathers were great. Cushion, slickness, and a good post shave feel. The subpar lather I got with the new brush was still good. The slickness saved my face. So for me I'm putting these on Elite status! Box 1:
I will add that the scents of the 3 I have used have changed a bit upon lathering. Wicked evened out a bit and allowed the 3 scents to blend a little better. WInter didn't change as much, but mellowed out a touch. Tik Tok went from coffee heavy to balancing more with the tobacco, and then becoming a touch more tobacco heavy. Keep in mind I'm not complaining about any of this. I feel like off the tub all of these scents are great, but once lathered the full potential scent wise is released. The only complaint I have is that Wicked is on the light side strength wise.
Well that's my 2 cents on this brand. I apologize to NurseDave for taking so long with this, but the samples will be on their way this week. As for the Up For Grabs bag, I was going to take one of the CBL soaps because I haven't tried one yet and everyone talks about how great they are. But I received a Tabacaveg from Doug and I'm guessing that's a CBL as there is a Tabacaveg in this bag. So I'll just be adding one or two.
