SOTD SATURDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER, 2021
Quicker shave than usual this morning as I prepare to return home. According to his father, my oldest son, Ben, everything is going well at home. Ben informed me that he polished off and then filled a nearly empty Oban 18 yr-old bottle with Vat 69 rotgut Scotch and left it out in my home bar. Kevin had two of his friends over, and the three pretty much polished it off. Ben tells me he thinks his son learned a lesson, judging by his face and his need for a headache pill yesterday.
I rose early so I could take my time and enjoy my shave. The little Klas Tornblom 4/8 maintained the fantastic shave tradition of all my Swedish 4/8 and cleanly and effortlessly removed my mug stubble in two and a fall very pleasurable passes leaving my mug porcelain smooth. My dome shave was every bit as good. My favorite Gillette, the New LC cleared away my noggin stubble with aplomb in the usual two ATG passes leaving your happy narrator velveteen smooth from shoulders to noggin.
RAZOR: Klas Tornblom 4/8 (Mug), Gillette New LC
BLADE: Feather DE (Dome)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE #005 Aluminum Handled SybBad Knot
CREAM: Kapo Fresh Menthol
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Bergamot & Thyme AS Balm.
Thanks, Maestro; it’s my favorite Gillette! I’m not a TTO fan!Beautiful New, Jeff.
They're good blade holders.
Dig that Ronson! Have a great Sunday with your whole family of wetshavers!View attachment 68413
SOTD SUNDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 28, 2021
Had a nice welcome home shave this morning. Still a bit jet-lagged, and seem to still be on Las Vegas time. Some of us prefer hollow ground and others more wedge or wedge-like grinds. My favorite grinds are extra full hollows or rattler grinds. The drawback to these grinds, particularly the bellied or double bellied full hollows is their fragility. I really enjoy wielding a hyper sharp hollow ground straight razor. I just love hearing the “Buttering Toast” song as the blade works. I removed close to two weeks growth after a recent hospitalization. It sheared away the heavy growth while singing away!
My grandson, Kevin, of the Thanksgiving hangover, bought a vintage Pearl Duck 5/8 last Wednesday on his own, knowing my appreciation for my Dubl Duck Goldedge 11/16 which I selected for this morning’s mug shave. He had planned to cleanup and present it to yours truly for Christmas, but a little post hangover clumsiness intervened. Unfortunately, he tapped the blade against the metal utility sink faucet on Friday while rinsing the anti-rust solution off, and cracked off about the first quarter of the blade below the spine. My son, Ben, his father, made the best of the situation. He shared G-Pop’s love of shorties. So the two of them will be working to convert the blade and scales.
The mug shave went swimmingly this morning. Last night I ran the blade through the constroption and Roo-skin bench strop until it was Feather-Super-styrofoam-poppin’ sharp. Two and a half passes really did the trick. Two scything passes on either side of the Adam’s Apple removed most of the recalcitrant, swirling stubble. Some final flat-blading took care of the rest. My shave buddy, David, has an amazing safety razor collection, but his favorite is his Ronson. I purchased mine a year or so ago on his recommendation, and am glad I did. This head-heavy little safety razor is quite efficient swept away my noggin stubble effortlessly leaving your happy narrator velveteen smooth from noggin to shoulders!
RAZOR: Dubl Duck 11/16 (Mug), Ronson Safety Razor (Dome)
BLADE: Schick Proline B-20 Injector
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Kent Infinity Synth
SOAP: PAA Coconut Bay
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Coconut Bay AS Splash.
Thanks, Brian! My son, Sam, married a Jewish girl, so we’re off to celebrate Hannukah with my grandchildren.Dig that Ronson! Have a great Sunday with your whole family of wetshavers!
Too bad about the Pearl Duck, Jeff. It was the thought that counted.View attachment 68413

I guess the 'Come to Jesus' meeting might need a part deux?Ben informed me that he polished off and then filled a nearly empty Oban 18 yr-old bottle with Vat 69 rotgut Scotch and left it out in my home bar.
Yikes! Maybe he can gift you a bottle of Oban now that the blade is kaput...My grandson, Kevin, of the Thanksgiving hangover, bought a vintage Pearl Duck 5/8 last Wednesday on his own, knowing my appreciation for my Dubl Duck Goldedge 11/16 which I selected for this morning’s mug shave. He‘s definitely learned a few lessons, Jason! Ben already had the chat with him.I guess the 'Come to Jesus' meeting might need a part deux?

SOTD TUESDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 30, 2021
Geneva Cutlery had its beginnings in 1815 when Phineas Prouty Sr. and his brother, John, founded a hardware store in Schenectady, NY. Along with the store, Phineas Prouty also had a cutlery business. By the 1820s Prouty had moved to Geneva, where he raised a family and continued his hardware and cutlery business. The Cutlery business was incorporated in 1902 to manufacture shears, but by 1912 they were the largest manufacturer of razors in the US. The razor division and the Genco trademark was sold in 1936 to WR Case & Sons of Bradford, Pa. These razors became renowned for the extremely fine grained NY steel they employed and the resultant edge-holding reputation they gained by that.
The Genco 35 6/8 I shaved with this morning was manufactured in Bradford, Pa. It was my third razor acquisition, and the first razor that I honed from bevel set to finish. The edge has remained buttery smooth and this morning delivered an excellent two and a half pass mug shave that left me delightfully smooth. Kirk and Kyle Evans of Colonial Razor have designed and delivered two excellent razor designs, an AC and a DE, the General and Silversmith respectively. This morning’s noggin shave was superb and featured one of my favorite modern artisan DEs, the Colonial Silversmith. Every aspect of this great little DE’s head reflects the studied scientific background of its designer, Kyle Evans, an industrial chemist. I’m really looking forward to the coming rollout of the latest Colonial Razor aluminum DE. Two ATG dome passes was all it took this morning to leave yours truly feeling clean and smoothly velveteen.
