Mitchell's Wool Fat.

The lather was good but it's the most sickeningly cloying scent I've ever smelled. Just awful. If Tabac is the chain smoking, curses like a sailor, 30 consecutive hours at the slot machine granny, MWF is the sweet old granny who owns Tweetie in the cartoons.
She was Hot...oooh Baby!!

and from the guy who drinks White Claw... ROFL Just kidding:p

MWF is an enigma ...

Its been around a long time (since the 1800's) and receives massive amount of praise for its post shave feel.

It lathers pretty poorly (and thats being nice) likely due to all the Lanolin in it.

There are tricks to make it lather slightly better (blooming, using it every day, adding stupid amounts of water, lathering for 10 minutes or until your arm falls off, etc), but even then, its not good and definitely not easy.

I do LOVE the scent... a lot. I dig the porcelain bowl and find the history of the product interesting, but I could never recommend it to someone.

Yes!
I don’t bloom it and have hard South Florida water. All I do is load my brush for about a minute and then face lather with no problems. The only reservation I would have is for those allergic to lanolin. If allergic stay away.

Not the best, not the worst.. somewhere in the middle. I do like it, but much prefer La Toja stick from hard soaps.

It's been awhile since I tried it. I didn't like it. @Spider and I must have used the same batch. I couldn't get it to lather and there was NO cushion when I used it.

I've tried two batches of MWF, and one performed well and other didn't. Therefore, it's a bit of a gamble to me and I don't like my odds... haha.

As promised..

That’s an excellent video, Dave and reflects my experience/technique lathering MWF to a T.

You mention that you’ve had the best luck lathering the Fat with a boar, but I’m curious if you’ve done much Fat lathering with a synthetic.

not so much but I will try this week some time to see,Thanks

@beginish
Bob , tried my cashmere synth today, seeing that if it could lather well wit one so soft tuen any would work. Thanks for prompting me to try. Great results today with it. I think with MWF i will stick to boar and synth, as yesterday i used a finest and it just did not release lather

nice video @BarberDave

You inspired me to reach for my MWF.

Still, very much a love/hate relationship for me. I love the scent, container, product history and post-shave feel. But it never lathers up easily, or as well as any of my other soaps. Heck, maybe my city water could be the culprit.

excellent!

The Fat is on my short list to try. I may have to wait patiently to see if it drops in my lap for the holidays, as it is one thing that "normies" can find on that big online shoping site easily (it's in my wish list). Based on this, I feel I should also add a new boar brush to that list as well...for reasons.

What boar brush are you looking at? Asking for a friend.

Good question. The last one I even used was an old Ever Ready, but the handle has cracked and needs repair. My first inclination was a Semogue Excelsior 830, as it seems to get a lot of positive mentions, and as previously noted, easily added to a big retailer wish list for the holiday. I'm certainly open to other suggestions, but that's probably best for another thread.
