I've seen where people have used clipboards (the plastic type) and they turned out nice. Those look similar.

Its not a clip board.it was a piece of hard plastic i found and thought it might work.
Just be careful how hard it is if you are using a wedge. Wedged scales will flex by design.
Cool. Should keep you from having to spend to much time sanding them down so they aren't overly thick. that can be one of the least fun parts of making a set of scales.
and to Shawn's point, if it doesn't have much flex you probably want to go with a spacer instead of a wedge.

it is just like the wedge but totally flat and not wedge shaped. it won't flex the scales when you pin everything up.
