Shave #82 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Gillette Prewar Tech, Bic Chrome Platinum blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, CBL Money tonsorial soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Old Spice AS, and Stirling Glastonbury EDT to finish!

A bit groggy and stuffy this morning. Hoping it’s just allergies!

I put the Money tonsorial through one last lathering, which went well despite the major flaking, and am now officially giving into peer pressure and calling it done. When I reach the pearly gates and my life is reviewed and the Big Guy asks me why I didn’t actually finish the 3017, I’m blaming TSC. 😜

As a reward, the rest of the week will be a free choice week; I’ll start Proraso Red faux 3017 next Monday.

Have a great Tuesday all!

Getting caught up, gotta ask, how are the melatonin gummies going for you now, and have you tried those and then a splash of Florida Water before bed? They say that stuff can give you some funky dreams...

Taking the melatonin gummies occasionally still. Seem to get slightly better rest overall, even if I do wake up a tad more groggy. No FW though lol...not ready for that experiment yet!

Shave #83 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Gillette Prewar Tech, Bic Chrome Platinum blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, CBL Grassroots Lavender soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and Guerlain Vetiver to finish!

Another groggy morning but I do feel a tad more rested. The problem the last few nights is that while I’ve been making the effort to go to be a little bit earlier, I’ve been waking up 5 minutes to an hour before my alarm goes off. Thankfully I semi-doze back off but it still stinks.

Good shave today!

I was asked Sunday and volunteered to pick back up the senior’s weekly Bible study that I previously (before COVID) had been helping coteach with one of the pastors (who had to leave this last year). I’ll be helping run and teach it again but I’ll be the main person. It’s a big responsibility but I’m hoping it’ll help when I apply for the pastor’s position.

Have a great Wednesday all!

Shave #84 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Parker Adjustable injector, Tactonic blade, Paladin Harlequin Chief 26mm brush, WCS/Zingari Soloist soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Lucky Tiger AS, and Encre Noire to finish!

A pretty decent nights rest I’d say.

It of a luxury shave this morning not that I need an excuse to do it but I did feel like I needed it today. Used the full tub of Soloist finally...glorious. It’ll take a little while to learn the proper lathering technique for this one but I still got a decent one today. Capped the shave with the perfect companion, Encre Noire...excellent.

Yesterday’s shift just felt draggy and I don’t think today’s will be any better. I think I’m feeling the stress/weight of the coming Sunday sermon and the added weight of the Bible study in now responsible for.

I think I’ve decided to try the iPad Pro/Magic KB/Pencil setup this time around. I’ve read so many reviews and pros and cons, it’s like everything else...there’s camps on both sides and in the middle. I hope it works out for me since it’ll be a pretty big investment. Going to make an Apple store appointment hopefully so I can give it a physical try out before the final decision.

Have a great Thursday all!

Test drive is always a good idea. Internet reviews are usually all over the place. Everyone’s idea of perfect is not the same. Look at cereal isle at the grocery store. 😬

My wife's 8 year old Macbook Pro is on its last legs. She's particularly upset since she still has a licensed copy of the Adobe suite which, to my knowledge, has all moved to a subscription model as opposed to owning the software outright. I have a ThinkPad from work and an iPad mini which works perfect for me but I'm guessing she'll need a replacement in the not-too-distanced future. Interested to hear your thoughts on the iPad as a full replacement, as I don't see her paying any subscriptions for Adobe going forward.

Yea. Look at the cookie section too! I mean why don’t animal crackers have a more prominent display?! 😂

The power of the internet has its ginormous share pitfalls for sure.

Thankfully I ditched Adobe a loooong time ago (I went with Pixelmater at the time which was a decent alternative; I haven’t done anything artsy at all more recently honestly). It’s still standard for a reason though unfortunately. I hate that most “upper end” things are subscription based now. It’s silly.

I haven’t subscribed or bought software in years though now, except for keeping my Bible research software up to date. The number of decent, free resources available these days is pretty good.

If I go with the iPad, I’ll definitely share thoughts here.

I’m old school and need the power of a business laptop. I do have an iPad but ... come on, they are a toy. If you needed a real keyboard, Apple would have given you one on the tablet right? And besides Apple now uses off the shelf parts like everyone else. Sorry ... not enough coffee yet :ROFLMAO:

Before staying home with our little guy, she was an architect and had bemoaned that subscription model fact many times as the most common architecture software went that route as well. She basically uses Photoshop and Indesign exclusively at this point, mostly for editing photos of the kiddo. I'm sure there are similar, opensource options out there (I used Gimp long ago) that will get her 90% of the way there, just will take some time getting used to.

Looking forward to hearing about your test drive!

A couple years ago I’d agree with you but the gap, particularly for the iPad and the Surface, is slowly shrinking between tablet and laptop. Enough to make me consider it I think.

With a few iPad OS tweaks it could pretty much have the same functionality...I don’t know why they just haven’t made a Mac OS lite (or iPad OS into something more similar) yet but I’m sure it’ll happen soon. Apple is shooting for 100% proprietary hardware pieces I’ll bet. I think this latest switch to the M1 in laptops shows that.

For me, the applications that I support at work and the tools I need don’t run on unix. Nope, nope ... don’t tell me about dual boot or emulators either :ROFLMAO:

But for some, the platform works really well for their needs.

Shave #85 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Blackland Vector, Proline blade, Stirling 2-band synth brush, Stirling Hipster soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Stirling Hipster AS, and ??? frag to finish!

Still Friday dad duties but I’m off today through Sunday. Nice rest with not having to wake up at 5:30 for work, giving me a couple extra, needed hours.

Today’s shave sponsored by Stirling! Just kidding. It’s been a while since I brought one of their tubs out; I’d forgotten just how effortless and good their shave soap is! Three fairly smooth passes with the Vector and I’m good for the day.

Some home projects going on today, hopefully some game time, and a mentoree meeting later this afternoon.
Have a great Friday all! Ya made it to the weekend!
