Open Blade Shave #238:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (13), RR Game Changer .68, Personna Platinum blade (1), Yaqi SF synth, CBL Barbershop soap, generic witch hazel, Speick AS, and Ferragamo Uomo frag to finish!

Wanted to get right on with testing the frag samples, of course, so I went with a good set up, but one that would allow the frags to speak without too much interference.

Today’s shower felt great. It was a very long day yesterday. After cleaning up, I used CBL Barbershop (excellent spicy/dark scent) with the wonderful Speick juice to cap the shave itself. Great refreshing regimen with 100% BBS. I tried (I think) Personna reds for the first time today. A bit harsh the first use, but I think they’ll smooth out quickly.

Now on to the Uomo! Each sample conveniently comes in a little glass spray tube. The Uomo begins with a pungent little burst, nearly perfumish, but dries down very quickly. At the start it is slightly green, with darker/earthy undertones, very bright though overall. A kind of vanilla-ish scent comes to the forefront after a few minutes and that is the main note through the rest of its stages. It’s not exactly vanilla (which is not a listed scent note) but I think might be a combo of the base notes (Cashmere wood, sandalwood, and tonka bean) with the muted sweetness of the tiramisu note. I don’t feel the other notes really come out to play or are well mixed in. Overall Uomo is, I feel, quite a unisex fragrance; the scent is pleasant but not “wow” for me. I don’t feel that is necessarily delivers on it’s description promises (gourmand and rich woods). Not a purchase, but nice to have experienced.

The missus and I are both still pretty pooped, feeling pretty off still. She is resting a lot, but thankfully not too uncomfortable yet. She has to sleep sitting up in our one comfy armchair, so I’ve commandeered the nearby couch. The kids are starting the Christmas festivities early, they’ve been with the grandparents since yesterday and will stay through next week. We did go out for a walk this morning for some air and blood flow. We’ve also been watching some British Baking show and The Iron Fist.

Happy Saturday all!

I remember those weeks sleeping in the recliner. Tell her to hang in there and keep up with the pain meds at the proper intervals. If you fall behind stretching it out, thinking your okay, you find out your not and you can't catch up on the pain t that point. Don't ask how I know. Ice is her friend.

Thanks Dave! The doc gave her pretty much the same advice!

Open Blade Shave #239:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (14), RR Game Changer .68, Personna Platinum blade (2), Yaqi SF synth, William’s (modern; as preshave) soap, Vito’s Extra Super soap, generic witch hazel, Speick AS, and Le Labo Bergamote 22 frag to finish!

Another lazy day, another late morning shave!

Went for the Vito’s today after a good William’s preshave soak. Great shave, only a little bit of irritation and a couple nicks - totally user error for chasing.

On to the Le Labo Bergamote 22! I was wrong yesterday, this one did not come in a spritz container, but the little stoppered glass vial. So I put a moderate amount on the pulse points with finger dabs. Nice, intense burst of green on application. The bergamot and cedar really come to the front, but are softened by the other notes, mostly the amber and grapefruit. This begins on the near manly side of scents but cools down to a unisex fragrance. Another one that will not be bought, though it is very pleasant. I should probably make that clarification. These first two trials (Uomo and Bergamote 22) are very nice and pleasant scents; I imagine they would do well for a number of folks, they are just not in the manly wheelhouse I’m looking for. I’m pleased to be able to try them!

In other things, we’ve been blessed to be treated to dinners by friends the last couple of nights. Nothing like having a nice, tasty, hot meal dropped off at your doorstep!

We are both getting plenty of rest. Looking forward to starting the Christmas festivities in earnest tomorrow. The missus’ initial pain meds and nerve block from the hospital are fully worn off now (she has prescribed pain meds though), and she is feeling a bit more discomfort and especially itching. Really trying to keep her from overdoing things. She is too used to being constantly on the go.

Happy Sunday all!

Nice review on the frags Chris. Based on your reviews I feel like I would have the same opinion on them. They sound like very pleasant scents, but not quite “manly” enough.

Tell the misses to take it easy! Lol. I know its not always easy to just sit back and not do anything. Especially if it’s not in her nature to let other people take care of things. My wife is the same way.

Thanks Steve! I’ll make sure she knows you said it...I don’t think it’ll save me from a tongue lashing though. ?

Baby Shark, as annoying as it is, is kind of catchy..... Santa Shark, not so much.

Tell that woman of yours to settle down and take it easy! She has to be at full strength to put up with you!
