I guess it is officially called I Coloniali Mango Shaving Cream because it was made with Mango oil but this now discontinued shaving soap used to be sold in a terracotta bowl and was anything but a cream, it was rather hard soap in fact. To quote Shakespeare "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet...", call it what you will, this odd looking soap had/has one of the most enticing scents you will ever encounter. It appears few here on the forum have actually tried/smelled the soap though, and that is a tragedy. @CVargo would say that is an EPIC tragedy since it is one of his favorite scents. Describing the scent is hard, I am guessing it presents itself a little differently to different people. I get a smooth, velvety, slightly smokey woody scent that is a little sweet and maybe a little spicy. The Mango oil MIGHT contribute to the sweetness but it isn't a mango scent at all. Confusing the senses even more is the every so slight hint of menthol when you lather...is that the source of the sweetness? Is it spice or mint? But it IS smoky and Woody right? Smoooooth and velvety, a little bit of somthin Somthin.

I don't know what it is about this soap, the terracotta pot it is in is really a cool idea, the scent is flat out enchanting, but the soap itself isn't terribly memorable...if memory serves. Anyone else try this soap and have a story to tell?

I only ask because Chad @CVargo was given an odd looking soap for Christmas and he said it smells quite a lot like his favorite mango cream soap in a terra cotta pot (I Coloniali). Serves him right, he asked for it...So I made it for him.

So has anyone else tried the IColoniali Mango Cream shave soap that used be sold in the terra cotta pot? I know it smells wonderful (I got that part nailed) but if it smelled so good, why do you think I coloniali stopped making the shave soap?, they still make creams in a tube and other products but none of them smell like the old shave soap.

I had it in my stash for a while then sold it to a friend at work. Generally speaking if a company stops making something, it’s probably one of two things. You either lose your capacity to produce it, for what ever reason, supply issues most likely. Or it didn’t sell well enough to justify the cost of production. You might find a lot of people who like it, no doubt. There were a lot of people who liked the Pontiac Aztek too, but look what happened to that [emoji53].

I’ve never used the soap but i have used the rhubarb emulsion, if it smells like that i am sad i never got a chance to try it.

There were over 140,000 Yugos sold...and NOBODY liked those.
Hey, I know someone who bought a Yugo. It had a Singer engine in it...as in the sewing machine company. Oh they were SO excited to come over and show us, we all ohh’d and ahh’d at how oddly small it was and how strange it was that a sewing machine was it’s power source. Then they went to leave and the thing couldn’t back out the driveway, the modest incline was too much for it. Wonder how many other people didn’t buy Yugo’s because they never made it back to the dealership from the test drive.

I coloniali is an old brand that has changed hands more than once, I’m guessing the shave soap was added to the lineup AND removed from it as a result of changes in owners and/or management.

The Hemi option took care of that problem.

Up here in Michigan they were giving Yugo's away with the purchase of (a Buick or a Cadillac? I fergit.) but I think that the dealership carried both cars. My BIL had one, brand new! Lol, he was a little wreckless back in our youth. Flipped it over on the expressway and he and a friend were in it. He said they kept spinning on the top of it as they were hanging upside down, looking at each other and laughing!

Oh, to be young again!

I have a friend I’ve known for 20 years, as long as I’ve known her she’s owned a yellow Aztek. She DROVE it many of these past 20 years and has more than 200-250k miles on it. It was a good vehicle for her but it’s longevity was very much the result of the local community college auto shop mechanic teacher repairing, replacing and troubleshooting just about everything that could possibly be repaired or replaced. She paid for everything but at a greatly discounted rate. I must say, I have only ever SEEN her Aztek and everyone in town knows it’s hers.
Possibly ahead of it’s time ...if you look at many of the newer small SUV type vehicles they have that same odd shape that seems to imply some intended utility that never manifested itself. What was the Aztek supposed to do? Turn into a tent or something like that?

Yep, otherwise known as a trash bag.
