Hey @CVargo , here's great another facemark for your collection!

The reported California numbers have been trending downward BUT there have been a lot of database related issues recently that have resulted in mis-reporting, under-reporting and over-reporting. I am not sure we can trust the data or trends at this moment. Our county dashboard has been good at informing us when there have been errors and how they might have impacted the most recent data reported, but when a new issue arises they replace the old message that explained why there was a spike or fall over a previous time period so when you look at the charts those spikes/falls appear to be accurate. Our county hospital data hasn't been updated for a full week now BUT the state is reporting updated hospitalization data daily, its unclear if the state has our local data or if our local hospital data is uncounted. No doubt they will get everything cleaned up and more accurately reported at some point, but the recent issues are certain to foster even more distrust from the general population at a time when trust was already in short supply.

Anecdotally, there seems to be very few cases and no surges in our county. The data is all rearward looking anyway so I am not concerned about its absolute accuracy EXCEPT that the state is keeping counties locked down with a massive impact on service businesses and local economies based on the data as it is presented/reported each day/week. Inaccuracy doesn't result in more infection but it DOES lead to overreaction (and possibly underreaction) in terms of what is shutdown and how businesses are impacted.

Sadly, our schools have been "back in class" virtually for almost 2 weeks and while the schools aren't a source of COVID-19 spread there have already been a number of student suicides reported (which means there may have been more attempted). It's easy to forget these students have been in isolation since March and their perspective may be more dire than others. Isolation is an effective tool at breaking strong-willed adults, it must be horrible for some of these kids.

new numbers we have went up several thousand since my last post our state totals are now at 107,000
total deaths are now at 2,288

If things aren't crazy enough for our Western friends...
Just more media hype the Bubonic Plague has always been in the West and Southwest. Prairie Dogs and Texas Round Tail Squirrels are carriers of the disease. Every year there are about 6-10 people that get it and recover. The Doom & Gloom guys at it again LOL

So.. if someone came in presenting with the Plague, but also tests positive for COVID-19, how would that be recorded.

We also have West Nile Virus (very common Equine issue), our fist cases of the season were reported a few weeks ago.
...but the plague sounds so COOL doesn't' it? "Hey Kevin, you were pretty sick last month, did you have the 'rona?" "Nah Pete, I had the Plague."

I dropped my daughter off for college yesterday. She is attending school in Canada, and navigating the immigration process was a very frustrating exercise. Normally, it’s straightforward, but covid prompted border closures with lots of uncertainty. In the end, she had her paperwork approved and was permitted to enter, but I had to drop her off literally at the border and transfer her to a car service to take her the rest of the way. She’s now doing her mandatory 14 day quarantine.

It was not what we had in mind when we were getting ready to send her off, but these times have turned everything on it’s head. Bittersweet does not begin to describe it. I will say, though, that I take great comfort that Canada takes this seriously, and has a strong, coordinated national response to the emergency.

Each time someone is tested positive that is considered a "case", and every person who is supposedly "positive" get's tested again and again until they get a negative, so one actual case is recorded as many. The death certificates say C-19 even if you were dying of cancer or liver failure or whatever, so the death totals are meaningless.

Strange how rioters are immune.

Friendly reminder let's not take this political.

Each state is different in the way they report their #s so please remember the point of this thread is to discuss how the virus is effecting you and your community. And HOW you are coping. Facebook and Twitter are a great place to go argue about whether or not Corona Virus is real or not.

Case in point look here in Utah they report how many individuals have been tested to date, AND how many total tests have been administered. Interpret as you wish.

Your entire state looks like my county @CVargo. My county is geographically HUGE (as big or bigger than several different states) but our population of 2mil or so is mostly concentrated into a corner. We began reporting “recovered” cases when most other locations did the same, according to the current-recovered our active case load tends to run around 9k plus or minus depending of whether we are seeing a surge or decline in cases. I’m not sure how, but I am thinking that the ‘active’ case count is useful to know, if nothing else it brings that BIG number down to a number that doesn’t seem unbelievable or inflated. I would share my county’s website but I don’t know if it matters to anyone outside the county itself.

...and you make a good point about Facebook and/Twitter being the better place to express opinions about origin, validity and the potential political twists and turns.
