Gentlemen:
Those that follow this thread know that recently it devolved due to opinions and comments that got a bit out of hand. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. consider your posts, whether it be photos, meme's, or comments and remember there are two sides to this debate, and we must respect both of them, and not try, whether intentional or not, to incite the opposing view.

We have given a TON of latitude here, and want to continue to do so, and spirited conversation is good.... Until it is not. the TSC has been very CLEAR on the policies regarding this thread and it's continued usage. Again please keep the thread on track, with respect to the views of ALL our members, whether you agree or not. We do not want to shut this thread down, however it is becoming more and more of a workload to monitor for items that devolve into a negative space.

Again, use this thread to give opinions, share your thoughts, experiences, statistics, and so forth, however think of the views that others may have, right or wrong. Before you post.

We are being as transparent as possible on our stance, and we do not want to shutter any thread, so please take this communication as a final recommendation to keep this thread alive.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

the number of patients receiving treatment in a hospital bed is up to 1,593, a record, and the number of people on ventilators is at 214. young adults between the ages of 21-30 currently make up 22% percent of all confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, and those ages 11-20 make up 11% of confirmed cases. This data follows national trends that indicate a growing number of young adults and youth are testing positive for COVID-19.

Utah seems to be finally stabilizing. School is a go. In a few short weeks I will be sending my wife (teacher), and two kids to the same school. I'll be honest I am scared and nervous. But this is my wife's livelihood. And there is no way that while she is at school that I can effectively work and homeschool two kids.

So non expert here looking at graphs. These are from Utah.

Key dates to keep in mind.

Big spike after Memorial Day.

Increased sense, July 1st instituted masks as highly encouraged and many problem cities the mayors mandated.

Shortly after 7/1 we still see increases I am assuming due to incubation. BUT now almost 3 weeks out we are seeing a drop off in cases.

One is left to assume that masks help. They obviously don't prevent... but I do believe they help.

Dave this is so sad. How bad is someone (what is the criteria) for someone to be hospitalized?
In the most simple cases it tends to be that you need oxygen. They don’t take too many chances with this as they’ve found that once people are close to needing oxygen they can take a downward turn within hours.

Thanks. Besides oxygen are there treatments? I read some doctors are promoting steroids but not sure this is standard treatments.

That I can’t answer 100%. I do know there is a thing called “proning”. Basically laying the patient on their stomach to get the weight of the heart off the lungs and hope to move air to healthier lung tissue. We were doing that as a last resort for ICU patients. Which is no small feat taking 8-10 fully suited up staff. We are now doing that for patients hoping to keep them out of the ICU and being intubate.

We are also using remdesivir for some patients, but I don’t know what the criteria is for that. I do know that we don’t have enough for everyone we want to use it for and it’s being rationed out by the county.

Just got back to school plans for my younger daughter. They’re doing a hybrid approach with half of the students in school on Mon-Tues and the other half remote. Switch it up on Thu-Fri. Everyone remote on Wed. Teachers will deliver classes live and streamed for the kids at home. In school, kids are kept in the same cohorts to keep any future positive cases confined and more easily tracked for exposures. No sports, no cafeteria.....all necessary but it’s going to be a long first semester.

I have just skipped to page 90 and may have missed some of the controversy. Some simple facts from my life.
  1. On July 4, 2020 one of my pledge classs (1975) fraternity brothers posted “Covid it’s real. I have been in ICU since Tuesday.”
  2. About a week later, his sister in-law posted that he was on a ventilator.
  3. On Monday July 20, 2020 he died.
The world lost a fine person way before his time.

Dang. Sorry to hear that. :(

I talked to a nurse from the local county hospital. She said they haven't had a case of Corona in over 14 days. 🥳
We have 3 counties here they haven't had a positive case in 3 weeks! Now other counties not so lucky sadly. State as a whole though is on a 5 day decline.

Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) today announced 1,654 new confirmed cases and one new probable case of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, 39 additional confirmed deaths and 26 new probable deaths.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 74,761, probable cases to 281, confirmed deaths to 1,242, and 43 probable deaths.

Based on information from BART, which is estimated to be accurate within 10%, as of yesterday, 9,961 hospital beds are in use (86.7% occupancy) and 1,522 are available. Of those hospitalized, 1,607 are COVID-19 patients.

DHEC also said two more children in South Carolina have been diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), which is associated with COVID-19.
The children diagnosed are 10 or younger and live in the Upstate, DHEC said.
That means so far, four children have been diagnosed with MIS-C in South Carolina
