Corona Virus

I mentioned this on the old guy call Sunday. The whole situation sucks (duh!). So if an area locks down and everything goes fine, there is no "proof" that it was the lock down that caused that. Just like there is a loud group of people that think they won't get the virus because of...well dream and unicorns I guess, there is a large loud group of people that scream we're fine see we didn't need the lock down! And blame whatever decision maker for their lost jobs and unruly hair. When in reality, they saved a ton of lives. The best outcome is the lack of problems, which is hard for the general public to see that's what they are fighting for.

I think we need/ed a lock down. I just think it needed to happen at the right time. In my opinion in my state's situation we jumped right into the deep end, and worked our way back to the shallows. But the deep end scared us so we won't go back. Where as if we started in the shallows moved to the deep end, and then worked our way back I tihnk tensions wouldn't be as high. But again hindsight and all that crap.

What I think is crazy is the school situation. They did 2 polls in our district one for staff and one for parents and I just saw the outcomes of said polls and the top 2 percentages of Both polls stated that the people were okay with going back to in face schooling with No concerns or going back to in face schooling with slight concerns !!!!!!!!!!!! Come on people this is our children we are talking about !!!! I will tell you I said in the poll until a vaccine was made there would be nothing they could do to make me NOT be concerned...Are parents so ready to get their kids out of their hair and to stop home schooling that they would willingly risk their own kids safety...... I personally think schools should remain closed and that school should be only online until this virus is under control.......

As a parent who has 2 young kids that are supposed to start school in a few weeks, and a wife who teaches at said school. I am really really torn on this. I believe that yes the kids need school. But I also worry about the virus for obvious reasons. Regardless I think it is safe to say anyone with young kids might need to invest in psychiatric help down the road. They don't fully understand what is going on. I have read the plans that our school is planning on doing and thankfully it is a private school so they can do things slightly different. And with the hand we are dealt I think they are doing literally everything they can for the safety of the children. But is it enough? That's a question I would love to have answered... but I just don't know the answer to it.

Our school is offering 3 options. In person school, online learning with the classroom teacher along with those in class(saves their spot for in class should we decide it becomes safe enough to send them), and the last option is to enroll in the fully online school instead of having a slot at the physical school.

Due to my wife and MIL(our primary child care when both working) being in higher risk categories we've decided to go with option 2 as we want that option of in person learning should a viable vaccine/treatment become widely available.

I will tell you from the other end of the spectrum our state was one of the last states to lock down our governor held.off on locking us down. People complained he should.have done it sooner. He hoped people would be smart and stay home without an order. They didn't. He issued the order.. Numbers went down.. Everyone started complaining we need to open back up. We slowly have been opening. Problems happened in this country.. Thousand upon thousands of people started protesting without regards to social distancing people also started thinking things were back to normal and doing as they please. People keep saying NOT ME over various reasons.. Numbers have went through the roof.. We are going to Have to do some form of sheltering in place again because if we dont then we are gonna have a lot of free space in this country from all the deaths we ARE gonna have.. We recently had a 5 year old.die from Covid in our state....This virus doesnt care who you are or how old you are its coming for you and I for.one am gonna fight against catching this virus... We all need to do our part and think of our fellow man. Woman or child...

I'm not sure on this myself, but studies here have led our health authority to think that closing schools had little impact. That seems to be based on comparison with Sweden where the infection rate for 20 years old and younger was about the same even though they were in school.

Personally I think compliance might be part of the reason. In other words people that age are out and about anyway.

Still that might make some of you feel better about the situation.

Yes there are 3 options being discussed here But it will ultimately be the state telling us which we are supposed to do and then we can choose to either obey that or to put our kid in virtual school.

At least in hot spots in person schooling I think is just insane. It's not just kids, they are bringing whatever their family members have been exposed to with them. And I have no faith at all that ALL the school aged kids could make it through any extended amount of time with their mask on constantly or not getting closer than they should to anyone else.

From what I understand there has now been another strain of this virus that will hit the kids as was evedienced by the 5 yr old dying in our state...

I have to say that while other countries have shown themselves to be more responsible, with so many people ignoring the mandates and with the number of cases surging, opening up the schools will expose our kids to adults who may be contagious. It's not worth the risk that our kids could die or be left with permanent debilitating organ damage that has been known to follow those who get sick and survive.

Thats pretty much our logic.

As far as my kid going to school. In looking at the online school if they say they are openinv up regular full face to face schooling and I'm torn on the option where he would be in school 2 days a weeks in face and the other days online... I just want all my kids safe.

Thanks Dave as this is what's going thru my head as I was reading thru posts. No one is thinking these things through

Yeah you know kids are gonna be kids. They will play and whatnot. Also my oldest is in band and you can't play any form of air powered instruments with a masks there will be all that in the air in the band rooms. And everyone in and out of the schools will be exposing everyone else. Teachers. students. parents .school cops.. Everyone.....
