Straight Shave #204

Razor: Feather SS
Blade: Feather ProGuard Blade (1)
Soap/cream: Klar Kabinett
Brush: TSC Legacy Brush
Aftershave1: Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Florida Water

Well I had fully intended to record today's shave. I had everything set up, and when I went to pause my video between passes well I actually hit play. So there I was just talking to no one LOL. Oh well I suppose I will just recap here.

I loaded a new ProGuard blade today into the Feather SS, and went to town. I really enjoy the ProGuard blade it always delivers for me, but it still must be respected can't let the word Guard fool ya. This can still fillet the face. I reached for the Klar Kabinett for two reasons. 1. I love it. 2. I mentioned that I like to use 4711 when using a rose scented soap, and I was told that Florida Water is similar to 4711 so I figured it was a good choice of soap. I received this soap from the gift exchange over at B&B and this soap is unobtanium. Speaking of gift exchanges if you guys haven't seen the Rudolph Gift Exchange head on over to the General Shaving Discussion thread and get signed up. This should be a lot of fun this year. Any ways the shave. I received a very nice and comfortable shave today.

So the Florida water first off all thanks to Dkeester (Doug) for sending this to me. The scent is a little bit more peppery than the 4711, but I really enjoyed the scent. One weird thing after I got it on the face my eyes began to water a bit, not from burn or irritation but it made them water like menthol does. But no cold either obviously. I am really digging the scent, and after one use I can say I enjoy it. Perhaps I will need splash some on at night and see if I get some crazy dreams like cblindsay talks about.

Well had a nice day up in the mountains yesterday at Oktoberfest. But sadly the winds were so bad that they weren't allowing the tram to take people to the summit. I was hoping to get up there to snap some pictures for everyone but sadly it was not in the cards. I have been up to the top many times before and it sure is beautiful. Perhaps I will get back up to Oktoberfest once more before the festival is over in a couple of weeks and snap some
pics for you all. Anyways happy monday and have a great day Cadre.

I've steered clear of the proguards, never really understood them. They don't look like they'd give a good shave. Can you feel the little points that stick down past the blade? And don't those get in the way of the blade contacting your face?

In my opinion they provide the BEST shave out of the Feather blades. I have tried them all. The points do not stick down past the edge. I would recommend trying at least one blade. Many swear by them.

Sounds like a great weekend Chad, and a great Feather shave.

Thanks Walt!

Love me some ProGuards. I like them better than Kai, but I want to try the mac daddy Pro blade.

As do I. Try the Super Pro. Those are CRAZY sharp.

They sure look like they do....

Well MY! I guess I stand corrected. I have never looked at it under a microscope or even a jeweler's loop before though. Well then I will say I definitely do not feel them.

I've never seen those. All I see is a bit of texture looking at the blade. Interesting. I've always wondered what the guard part actually was.

Oktoberfest....sigh....you're making me homesick. The 3 years that I was stationed in Bavaria were hands down the three greatest years of my life. I think it was '91 (maybe "92) when I went to the Munich Oktoberfest. My stein has a hairline crack from getting clanked too many times!

I like Proguards in my shavettes but the Pro's and Pro supers are nasty sharp and very very efficient in Kate. Schick makes a AC blade P30 it is called and those are a very good mix of all that is nice about all the AC blades but not any better than the rest.

I was very hesitant to try the pro-guards but when you sent one along with Dave's razor I was pleasantly surprised. I actually like the way they feel and perform but will attest to the fact that a dull pro-guard is no fun. I think they cost more but after trying them I am pretty sure I would be willing to pay a little more. The supers are a beasts that must be respected, amazing how a millimeter here or there can change the feel.

I suspect the guard portion doesn't wrap around the blade, rather it protrudes in a way that may stretch the skin at the contact point. I am not willing to test the design but I always assumed the guarded blades protected against "slice" injuries. I can't imagine how the guard would do that so I am not willing to test the idea but i do think they protect against the hard touchdowns. Bottom line, the pro-guard is a worthy purchase.

Great shave. I am glad that you like the Florida Water.

Thanks again Doug!

BROST!

Great shave with the SS Chad! Thanks for sharing the Fest pics, looked like great fun.

Thanks Chris!

The pro's are definitely very efficient. The Super's are WAY to sharp for me.

Agreed!

Straight Shave #205

Razor: Feather SS
Blade: Feather ProGuard Blade (2)
Soap/cream: Speick 7/10
Brush: Razorock Plissoft
Aftershave1: Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Speick

Well had another fantastic Speick shave today. Also ordered a backup of the splash as I am now less than half full. This is a splash I would always like in the den. These ProGuard blades are great in my opinion especially shave 5-12 they last a long time and can easily provide a month of perfect shaves.

Nothing crazy to report. Had a pretty chill day yesterday. The fiber optic company came and dug up the yard to run the personal line up to the house, now they will come back out on Monday to finalize the install on the inside of the house. I am really looking forward to having super fast internet. The days of crappy internet are numbered and I am ready for something more reliable.

Have a great day cadre.
