Chad Uses BAD blades!

Well for historical reference I get the point.

I am up on my tetanus shot but don't want to risk it lol

And yes Mr 3 names it was the Dorco 300

I’ve tried 1 Super a Thin and it was semi-recently I think. I recall not really enjoying it. It was sharp but (perhaps it was minds games) felt harsh for me and I perceived that I could feel the difference in thickness. I believe I had it in a less ridged razor and it felt more chattery than a regular blade.

Volume 60 Gillette SUper Thin Use 2

Well today the blade actually performed very well. I was quite impressed honestly. Not quite to the level that I am going to start searching eBay for a good deal, but good enough that if one of these blades ever entered my den again I wouldn't hesitate to use it. The blade is plenty sharp not as smooth as some of my favorite blades. But I got two very nice shaves from it.

Because of that I give it a ranking of Good.

****RATING SYSTEM****
TRASH: Can't get a good shave. This blade is horrible. Never use again.
BAD: A bad blade but technically still got a serviceable shave, but have no desire to use the blade again.
GOOD: It was good enough that if I have another blade I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
100PACK: This blade was good enough to warrant stocking up!

Volume 61 Lord Super Stainless Use 1

Well a small break in the storms although still snowing but I don't have to be anywhere so I had time to get in front of the camera and do a bad blade review. Used today was the Lord Super Stainless Blade. Same company that makes Shark actually. Some interesting history I found out about Lord. In the 70s they were part of the Wilkinson Sword UK Company and and then in 1981 Wilkinson sold off, and Lord was made taking over the Egypt plant. They have a rich history of making blades and come from one of the best. There are 5 branded Lord blades and I have 4 of the 5.

These ones are NOT coated and just a regular Stainless steel blade. With the Shark SS getting a 100 pack ranking I had high hopes. The shave was good and close, but the blade is NOT as sharp, and I actually had some tugging on lower neck. The shave though was good at the end, but while applying aftershave I did some minor burn but nothing serious. It will be interesting to see how tomorrow's shave goes.

Pricing

Amazon $9.99/100 .10 per blade
WCS $10/100 .10 per blade
IB $9.99/100 .10 per blade
Maggards no 100 packs just tucks of blades. Good for an add on.

Volume 62 Lord Super Stainless Use 2

Well shave two on this blade and it was better than yesterday but I must still say not the best. Just slight tugging on the lower neck, but still a close shave. I didn't have the razor burn feeling though when applying the aftershave. I think the problem is this blade is just not that sharp. IT performs well enough but not as good as my now favorites.

With that all being said I am ready to call this one, I wavered between Good and Bad but after going back and reviewing past reviews it doesn't deserve the bad category. So it gets a Good ranking. Here is the updated info:

Volume 63 Lord Platinum Use 1

Well today as I continue in using the different lord blades I grab the Platinum. It obviously has a platinum coating. Upon opening the blade it actually looked the exact same as the Stainless blade. Which makes sense as the reviews I read state it is in fact the same blade but just has the coating applied. I find it interesting that they wouldn't make it say platinum on the blade. Anyways the shave was okay, still a little rough on the neck and I would argue it still lacks sharpness. While yes a tad bit smoother it was negligible. It will be interesting to see if tomorrow is better.

Pricing:

Amazon: 100 pack for $10.99 roughly .11 per blade

Maggards: only sells tucks

IB and WCS do not sell this blade.

Huh. I actually thought Lord Platinums were a good blade. I bought my 100 pack from IB for the same price Amazon is listing them for now, but it has been some time ago. Not as good as some others that I've tried since then, but were always smooth for me. I agree with not being quite as sharp as some others though.
Nacets and now PolSilvers have now beaten them out for me, but I definitely don't hesitate using them occasionally.

I agree that they are good blades, but don't rise to the level of 100 pack for me. More on that soon. But I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

Volume 64 Lord Platinum Use 2

Well today was the second shave with the Lord platinum and like it's predecessor it performed better on the second shave but not good enough to warrant continuing. This blade is marginally better than the Super Stainless but a good performer. I would not hesitate to use these blades again, but will not be ordering a 100 pack of them.

It's rating is GOOD.

Volume 65 Lord Chrome Use 1

Well today I used a different Lord blade this one the Chrome plated blade. And to be honest the shave was significantly better than the other two. This one was smoother, and felt a bit sharper. It did perform really well also. I really enjoyed this shave. Is it 100 pack worthy? That is the hard part I am still leaning towards no, but it will depend on how the other shaves go.

I checked out Lord's website which is http://www.lordshave.net for those that are interested and found A LOT OF DIFFERENT blades. They also make blades for all these companies:
Lord
Asco
Big Ben
Racer
Shark
Silver Star
Crown
Rainbow
Blue Sword

These Chrome blades currently can only be found at Amazon and West Coast Shaving for 100 pack you will $10 or .10 per blade. Not bad at all. But all the Lord blades have been reasonably priced so far.

Volume 66 Lord Chrome Use 2

Well today was the second shave with the Lord Chrome blade, and I must say it still gave a very good shave. But after contemplating and reviewing notes on previous blades used, it is not warranted to enter the realm of 100 pack. It is just not as sharp as I would like it. However it does deserve a higher ranking. So it is in the good category and significantly higher than its counterparts.

Still following along Chad. I think I have a Lord blade or 2 somewhere. I’ll have to pull them out after the One Blade Challenge and try them out.

Volume 67 Lord Captain Use 1

Today I used a Carbon Steel Blade by Lord. This blade is an interesting one. Can't really find any info and can't find it on their website. Also looking around on the web I have come to the conclusion that this blade has been discontinued and is no longer made.

It being a Carbon Blade means some different maintenance is required to prevent it from rusting. I go over that in the video.

This blade can not be purchased at any of the big 4 for shaving, but can be found on eBay and other places. Roughly anywhere from $10 to $18 for what remains which isn't much.

Volume 68 Lord Captain Carbon Use 2

Well today the shave was way better than yesterday. VERY good. I really enjoyed it. No tugging or pulling anywhere and just an all around smooth shave. Yesterday's shave was also good but not as good as this one. The biggest downfall is these blades are Carbon Steel. I usually stay away from these style of blades due to the extra steps one has to take to prevent rusting. Thankfully I live in a relatively dry climate but I still need to take precautions to prevent rust. Also doesn't help that these blades have been discontinued. Regardless though I must grade just the blade and it is another Good ranking. Maybe a bad blade will be coming up soon.

Volume 69 Topaz Stainless Use 1

Well today I had a fun time doing the research on this blade. Take a listen to the video and let me know what you think. It could almost be a soap opera LOL.

But the shave went not so well. Shame really, I had high hopes but we will see how the second shave goes.

As far as cost goes these are only listed at Maggard's currently. 100 pack for $12 so roughly .12 per blade.

well today back in the saddle after the break away. I use the Topaz Platinum. The history is the same as the stainless except this was the brothers attempt to have a better blade.

It wasn't great lol. Watch the vid... There will be blood.

Yea basically more of the same. This blade is just a bit better than its stainless counterpart. But still not good.

It gets a rating of bad.

Volume 72 Gillette Platinum Use 1

Today the Gillette Platinum blade was selected for review. I have some experience in the past with this blade but never bought more than a 5 pack due to cost, and getting as good of shaves from other blades. This blade is made in Russia in the Gillette Nacet Factory. They tout excellent longevity and smoothness. They are primarily marketed in Arab markets as well as Russia. So you can find packs where the language is in Arabic, Russian, or English. Just something to keep in mind when looking for these blades.

The shave went actually very well. The shave with this blade was very nice and provided an excellent BBS shave. Which I haven't achieved in awhile due to a streak of bad blades. Tomorrow I will use this blade in a more aggressive razor and see how it performs. The biggest drawback on these blades is price:

Amazon: 100 blades for $18.88 so roughly .19 cents per blade
Maggards 100 blades for $40 so .40 cents per blade
WCS 100 blades for $46 so .46 cents per blade
Not sold at Italian Barber

Even at Amazon the price is a little higher than others but manageable.
