Chad Uses BAD blades!

To be honest...I believe I have had adequate shaves from most of those blades. I have some Chinese Gillette Blades however that are not good at all. Feel free to let me know you want to try them!

Never heard of them. But willing to try.

Volume 1 Muhle Blade First Use

Okay so today I used the Muhle Blade in my Timeless razor. And well the shave was a little rough. I found the blade to not be very sharp and I had to do more work than I should. I did get one small nic on my chin when doing my chin on my first pass. The shave wasn't very close either, this blade lacks sharpness! The aftershave also let me know that a not so comfortable shave was had. I will continue on this journey tomorrow and doe the second use on this blade. It will NOT graduate to the Variant razor.

I did record the shave here

One of the things I discussed is that each blade will get a rating.

The ratings are:

BAD: I never want to use this blade again.
GOOD: It was good enough that if I have another blade I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
100PACK: This blade was good enough to warrant stocking up!

So after one use, this blade so far is in the BAD category but it was at least good enough that I did get a Socially Acceptable Shave but I would prefer a little closer.

Also I mentioned in the video that if you think I am missing a BAD blade and you are willing to put one in an envelope and send one to me I will use it. Just PM me here. And I am willing to PayPal you the cost of the stamp plus 25 cents per plade.

You are a brave man Chad. Do you have a bailout blade in the event of an out the gate train wreck?

If the shave is so bad that I can't continue, I have my Injectah on standby ready to clean up the mess.

The Parker blades are very good. If you want to try them, Chad, I will happily send you a tuck.

Never even heard of them
Are they considered bad lol

i bought them as on a whim. Figured $1.30 for a 5 pack why not. I have two cheeks.

I would put them slightly worse than Merkurs which I rank pretty low. Others have liked them in reviews I have read.

It's so heartwarming to see so many folks willing to send Chad blades that may or may not remove more than he bargained for. Lol godspeed on your journey Chad.

Now this is the type of stuff I look for in a forum. Good stuff Chad.
I’ve got the popcorn and will be glued to this thread to see the outcome. Great reqsearch Incase I ever find myself in a third world county and need a razor. More than likely this is going to be the lot we are looking at.

Volume 2 Muhle Second Use

Okay well today was the second use of the Muhle Blade. I did not record the shave today. I used a CBL soap offering so trust me the bad shave was NOT due to the soap. These blades are just NOT sharp. I clearly removed hair I could see it in the sink, but it felt like I was scraping my face. No real pulling but just an uncomfortable scraping feeling. So with that being said this blade is definitely bad!

Now I know I started this thread saying I can get a good shave with any blade... well today's shave was actually closer than yesterdays, but it required more attention to detail, and I couldn't do my standard ATG pass like I enjoy doing. So even though my shave is closer it wasn't comfortable at all. So now that brings me to my ratings I know I said there would be 3 categories but as I was thinking yesterday while sipping on some beer I decided I need a fourth category. That category is the TRASH category. So here are updated categories and descriptions:

TRASH: Can't get a good shave. This blade is horrible. Never use again.
BAD: A bad blade but technically still got a serviceable shave, but have no desire to ue the blade again.
GOOD: It was good enough that if I have another blade I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
100PACK: This blade was good enough to warrant stocking up!

So this blade's final rating is BAD I am left asking myself how could a company who makes such good razors like the R89 and the R41 have such bad blades? I can't even imagine using this blade inthe R41. It would definitely turn people away.

Then I did a little research on these blades meaning I looked at Amazon LOL https://www.amazon.com/Muhle-stainless-steel-double-blades/dp/B00QFJWQKM

$12.99 for ten blades!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!! Then I see a 4.5 out of 5 Star rating! There is no way that that the 71% of people who rated this blade a 5 out of 5 have used other baldes. Just my opinion obviously! With how expensive these blades are even though I keep them in the BAD category it almost makes me slide them into the trash category. But I will leave that up to you all!

Tomorrow I will be using another balde! This one was binned after two uses! So it will not graduate to the Variant.

Entertaining thread so far. I like the rating scale--simple, but effective. Tells me exactly what I need to know without unnecessary complication.

You did see improvement right? Shouldn't you just give it one more shave just to be sure? I mean this is for science.

I am impressed that you are doing this back to back days without giving the face a chance to recover and the beard to grow out, making it easier for blade performance.

\n\nThanks. I have to be overly concise at work, I don\'t want to apply that much to a shave. So simple it is! \n\n

\n\nWell I am a daily shaver, so I figure this is the best way to go about it! And no thanks on one more shave LOL! This blade is already in the blade bank there is no going back LOL.\n\n
Nice thoughts and thanks for an interesting thread in the name of science !!
\n\nGlad you like.

\nI like the way you think.

Volume 3 Van Der Hagen Use 1

Alright well today I grabbed a blade that many people use, because you can get it at your local Wal Mart, Walgreens, Target, CVS etc. The VDH blade. They are stainless steel and ice tempered whatever that means. I think a lot of traditional wetshavers that travel rely on these blades to be picked up when traveling by plane and they didn't check a bag. I know I have picked some up before.

So the shave with it actually went pretty well, I ended up BBS on my cheeks, chin, and moustache area. But DFS on my neck. No irritation and no blood. So tomorrow it will get a second use and this blade might be the first to get 3 uses. We shall see. One last thing I talked about in the video today was the price of these.

$2.88 for a 5 pack. So roughly 58 cents per blade.

In my research I was unsuccessful finding a 100 pack, so with simple math that means 100 blades would be about $58! That is absolutely outrageous!

Here is the video and also shorter this time around:

Volume 4 Van Der Hagen Use 2

Well today was use two with the VDH blade. And I must say this is NOT a bad blade. With the second use in my Timeless Razor the blade really smoothed out compared to yesterday and I was able to obtain a fantastic BBS shave! No irritation at all also. These blades are actually pretty good. Are they better than my favorites? NO but they are probably close. I think these blades deserve respect and the only fault I would give someone for using these things would be, "Why are you wasting money?" These blades are outrageously expensive like we discussed yesterday. Where these blades land for me are the perfect travel blade. You are on vacation or business trip and don't want to check a bag, so you stop at a Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc and grab a tuck of these blades. You will get a better shave than those Gillette monstrosities and be able to still use your DE. 5 blades for $2.88 doesn't seem bad and in that regard it isn't, just don't make it your permanent balde, because there are better blades out there for roughly 11 cents per blade instead of 58 cents per blade.

This blade tomorrow will be used in the Parker Variant where I up the aggressiveness and we see how it does! I will record the shave and give my final rating on this blade.

Hope everyone is enjoying this because with the blades on the way in this could be a long series.

Good to know Chad. My guess the reason someone would make it their blade of chioce is no other availablity and ignorance of the market out there.. and I guess ignorance to have access to the internet and buy online.

\n\nI think you’re right on there. Surprisingly there’s still those folks that just don’t look much beyond their local stores for what they need. It’s probably one of those things that is half impulse buy, like “Oh yea, I’m almost out of [insert shaving item here], dang it. Guess I’d better just grab these.”
