Volume 29 BlueBird Hi-Stainless Use 1
Alright well ran a random number generator and it selected the BlueBird Hi-Stainless. I do have some experience with this blade having used it years ago. I remember good things. So let's see how it is today.
First off these blades are made in Turkey by Derby. However I don't think these are re-branded Derbys actually I think they are just contracted. However they do have the same coating applied which is Chromium-Ceramic-Tungsten and Polymer. They do claim that they use a different Stainless Steel hence why they refer to it as Hi-Stainless. I personally like Derby blades for travel because they are more mild. But this is a review on BlueBird.
The BlueBird blade when reading reviews many claim sharper than Derby, but still plenty smooth, and actually quite a bit of comparisons to Feather. Which where not quite as sharp but very good. My shave today went flawless. No pulling, no tugging, and just an all around great shave. This is a nice blade. I walked away with a wonderful BBS shave. Here watch:
So now the fun stuff price?
Italian Barber, Maggards, and WCS do not sell this blade currently.
Amazon has it priced at $18.99 (OUCH) and it is not fulfilled by Amazon. While doing my research apparently there was a period of time where the blade was taken off the market, and was brought back a little over a year ago. People that use these blades have stated no difference between the older and newer blades. And I can not find a solid reason for why they were off the market. All is not lost... with a little research you can find these blades on eBay from a US seller for free shipping for just a little less than $9. If this is a blade you want to buy in bulk I recommend looking there.
So far I think this blade seems very promising and we might just have another blade that makes it to Shave #3. Stay tuned.
