Chad Uses BAD blades!

What? You want me to make a fully annealed (very soft) DE blade honed on a piece of broken concrete? I can do that.

Volume 29 BlueBird Hi-Stainless Use 1

Alright well ran a random number generator and it selected the BlueBird Hi-Stainless. I do have some experience with this blade having used it years ago. I remember good things. So let's see how it is today.

First off these blades are made in Turkey by Derby. However I don't think these are re-branded Derbys actually I think they are just contracted. However they do have the same coating applied which is Chromium-Ceramic-Tungsten and Polymer. They do claim that they use a different Stainless Steel hence why they refer to it as Hi-Stainless. I personally like Derby blades for travel because they are more mild. But this is a review on BlueBird.

The BlueBird blade when reading reviews many claim sharper than Derby, but still plenty smooth, and actually quite a bit of comparisons to Feather. Which where not quite as sharp but very good. My shave today went flawless. No pulling, no tugging, and just an all around great shave. This is a nice blade. I walked away with a wonderful BBS shave. Here watch:

So now the fun stuff price?

Italian Barber, Maggards, and WCS do not sell this blade currently.
Amazon has it priced at $18.99 (OUCH) and it is not fulfilled by Amazon. While doing my research apparently there was a period of time where the blade was taken off the market, and was brought back a little over a year ago. People that use these blades have stated no difference between the older and newer blades. And I can not find a solid reason for why they were off the market. All is not lost... with a little research you can find these blades on eBay from a US seller for free shipping for just a little less than $9. If this is a blade you want to buy in bulk I recommend looking there.

So far I think this blade seems very promising and we might just have another blade that makes it to Shave #3. Stay tuned.

Looks like the chromium, clay, platinum, super duper, pixie dusted, super cold heat treated edges work well! Looking forward to hearing about day 2 and sounds like 3!

Volume 30 BlueBird Hi-Stainless Use 2

So today I had a reaction to the soap. You can read more in my shave journal. So I did not do a full shave today due to the reaction I was having. However what I did do was excellent. I am really liking this blade quite a bit. I will be doing a third shave with this blade tomorrow so stay tuned. I also plan on recording it. Hard to say what the rating will be on this one but it is teetering between good and 100 pack currently.

Volume 31 BlueBird Hi-Stainless Use 3

Well I loaded it all up in the Parker Variant and went to town. What a shave. Super close, and delivered an excellent result. HOWEVER, it was not as comfortable to get there as it was with the Timeless. The blade left me a tad bit confused and I need to decide where it belongs. If I only look at the first two shaves I think it would get a 100 pack rating honestly. But if it isn't as comfortable when paired with a more aggressive razor I wonder if it deserves to be there? But the shave was still good no blood and no irritation.

I use blades on average for 3-6 uses. I will need to do more work with this blade and that is what I plan on doing down the road. Couple that with everything I am going to rate this blade GOOD. But I think this could be THE blade for many people. It just didn't rise to that level like other blades used that have received that rating. I still might end up with a 100 pack if the price is right though. Here watch

Finally got caught up on this adventure of yours Chad...love the blade reviews though haven't had the chance to watch the videos yet. Interesting on the Sputnik blades being so good...enough for you to buy the bulk pack. Looking forward to your thoughts on some of my favorites...the Super Max Platinums and Perma Sharps.

Thanks for reading Josh. I have enjoyed the series thus far, and looking forward to more blades.

I think this turned into something less of a "Chad Uses Bad Blades" and more of a "Let's See How Many Blades We can get Chad to Use" thing...

Volume 32 Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (Black) Use 1

Alright well a shave today with a blade that I know is NOT bad. But with how this series has evolved this will happen a few times. While I do like some of these 7 O'Clock better than others these are considered by some to be the best. These are Platinum coated and come from India. Gillette puts 7 to a box to make you think you are getting more. So when buying a 100 pack you actually get 140 instead. Here is the pricing

Maggard 140 blades for $50 so .35 cents per blade
WCS 140 blades for $50 so .35 cents per blade
Italian Barber 140 blades for $34.95 so .25 cents per blade
Amazon 84 blades for $14 so .17 cents per blade

So as you can see these blades are pretty pricey, especially when compared to other blades I have used.

Having used these before I knew that the sharpness on this blade is very sharp, and that is why a lot of people like them, still fairly smooth but I would argue not as smooth as other blades that I like to use. Especially when I compare to other 7 O'Clock blades that I like. This blade will most likely get 3 full shaves out of it, and then I will need to decide if it should bump up to the 100 Pack rating. Something to keep in mind when in the 100 Pack rating it also means that I would buy 100 pack and recommend to you to buy a 100 pack. I am going to try and prevent price from being the final decider because price is subjective. Some people are okay with spending this price for blades, for me I would prefer to not spend that much. Anyways here is the shave video.

That was quite the love bite Chad. I do like the Super Platinums in the small numbers I consume DE’s.

Volume 33 Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum (Black) Use 2

no blood today, but I must admit the blade isn't as smooth as I remember, and definitely not as smooth as some of those 100 pack rated blades. Almost threw in the towel, but the blade does deserve a 3rd shave.

I am now leaning towards ranking the blades in each category except for the trash category. We shall see.
